^I understand Jasmine; I didn't take it personally at all. No offense taken.
And I would like to say, for the record, that if I personally offended anyone in the slightest, please forgive me. I remain firm in my doctrinal convictions (well at least those that I'm very certain of), but I always wish to do so with integrity and in true love.

Does anybody know if there was a "Berean" equivalent to "Lock the thread"? I'm serious y'all. " As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.[/b]" (Acts 17:10-11) The flow of this most recent "hot thread" has me really interested in HOW these people were actually doing the two things for which Paul so highly commended them. This was a group of "yet working on it" human beings, who, precisely because of their humanness, and even as God's anointed and favored, brought all and whatever personal differences they had to their "receiving the message with great eagerness" and "examining the Scriptures every day". Nevertheless, they were still apparently manging to do these things collectively. Now I'm thinking that group looked something like this ( ;D ) ... just as we often do here, especially when we're passionately "threshing" out a matter of scripture, LOL! And, like us, with a "hot" topic as the subject, I'm thinking that the Bereans must have had some very intense fellowship, if not on a pretty regular basis, then at least from time to time. So I'm most impressed and I'd like to better understand the how(s) of "they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day". How did they do that which so impressed God's man that he commends them in the record. Hmmmmmm... I'm just thinking the Bereans just might have a little something to teach about "discussion without a fight"... Btw, I'm from the olllllld school. As far as I'm concerned, we might sho' nuff' be arguing, but we ain't really "fighting" until or unless you put your hands on me... and only then if I hit you back! LOL!

I just wanted to add this regarding the thread being locked:
I agree that there is definitely a time when such an action is prudent. In many ways that will always be a somewhat subjective decision so I don't know that we'll ever all agree on exactly what that is/should be in every case. Sometimes we will need to and can simply submit to each other in such things. As both a member and and a moderator, I'm especially and just really glad that this is a place where "thread-locking" is a very rare event.
Praise God for our liberty in Him and His liberty in this place! Now that's worth "fighting" for!
I've reread the thread in question several times now. And, each time that I do, having nothing to prove, taking no side but God's and with the sole intention of seeking, pursuing and knowing Truth, I find this. Despite whatever flesh wrestling and/or spiritual warfare was or was not taking place, there is still much wonderful Word and excellent word-working in that thread and the seeds of much more to come. And I see a whole lot of love and concern for God's Truth and His people in there.
I'm more than blessed and edified by that. It is what allows me, on these matters, to rest in seeing that God is indeed "the voice in many waters", knowing that "His Word is not bound", and believeing that "Holy Spirit will", as Yeshua promised, "lead us into ALL TRUTH".
There is an old expression about locking the barn door after the horse has already left... nothing wrong with the action but it will have absolutely no effect on the matter. Spiritually speaking, I believe the "horsemen" are mounted up and riding this way. So, especially regarding our handling of critical scriptural/spiritual matters like this topic/doctrine/teaching, and the many others that make us "foam at the mouth", cower in fear, stomp off mad, try to control, etc. etc. etc., the question on my mind and the conviction in my spirit this morning is from Jeremiah 12:5:
"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?"
God Bless You ALL!

Keita, your post reminded me of some earlier church pioneers who have gone on and they were once called to defend the Constitution of the Church. WOW the stories of "heated discussions" during that meeting are almost unbelievable in regards to how Saints should act. I have heard accounts of how men were screaming, hollering and just acting real ungodly. That's why I truly understand how the "HOT" topic could have seem as "IF" it was taking a turn for the worse. But even today as it was back then the Constitution was defended and the Doctrines of the church still stand today, with some changes. Even today in my denomination the "hot" argument is should women be ordained "preachers." Now, imagine those discussions HOT Topics IMO are good and usually at times bring about positive change!!!!!

Agreed.... Well it was fun while it lasted.....But the info is still there so I guess that doesnt take anything away from the topic and the personal study that can be done. We learn in part though saints, so whatever revelation that is given by GOD is truly a sweet morsel.

IMO,
If one wants to know WHY the thread was locked, then they should ask the one who locked it...lol
misskay, whereya at?
As the initial thread starter I asked for the thread to be locked but for NONE of the reasons that has been posted in this thread thus far.

IMO, If one wants to know WHY the thread was locked, then they should ask the one who locked it...lol misskay, whereya at? I agree with you, if indeed that is still an important question for any member here. Praise God, we are not the type of forum where decisions cannot be questioned. I thought you made your reasons for asking very clear in your post making your request for locking the thread. What may be confusing to some is why you were "asking" for the thread to be locked when you, as a moderator, have the authority to do so yourself.

Saints. The thread was locked. If there are any question as to why it was locked I believe it was answered in the final posting on the thread OR you can ask the person who locked it via PM ( which I believe is the best route instead of draggin it back up publicly and possibly not even having any idea as to why the thread was locked in the first place )

Frankly, I think too much of the business of that thread was already and very inappropriately handled via "PM". Imho, that was a BIG part of the problem we experienced on that thread...legitimate doctrinal debate being made into a personal/private matter (whether by PMs or otherwise) by those who find disagreement with them or their views intolerable.
I, for one do not consider the locking of a thread or the reason(s) for it to be "private" matters and I would be very concerned if it were to become so.

Keita, you are so right, and I think we should all keep in mind another thread that you brought up previously that is so appropriate right about now: jbrefugees.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=thoughts&action=display&thread=1121399692

Well I was always told by "Admin" that they don't like posts to be locked so therefore I don't have the authority - moderator is just something under my Screen Name---LOL and that is why I went in the direction of "since I started the post" can I also request for it to be locked.

I personally do not disagree with a request made via PM because this way you can avoid exactly what we are getting right now in this thread.
EDITED TO ADD: I also believe that anytime one questions an action of one who has "authority" that it really should be in a PM. I believe that is the same way that it would be handled in chuch, privately? No?

Just for the record, I didn't pm anybody to lock the thread, I made my statement in open forum, as I always do..Don't you guys know me by now? Also, i think all the chit chat about it being locked is kinda useless now. I mean you who are responding do HOLD the authority to actually unlock it so go ahead if that what makes the majority happy. My request for locking it, was not because I was offended. I don't think I had a reason to be offended. I didn't agree, but was not offended. I certainly didn't think it should be locked because their was disagreements, as we had 7 pages of disagreements..lol Now even with "Hot" topics..there are still ways to conduct ourselves. Now even if you ask Misskay, why she locked it. I can answer for her. She felt the fervency in my post..and she moved accordingly.LOLOL

Can we please (no this in not towards you Jasmine -- go add some more songs to the music board....lol) not do the "who sent the PM", "who was offended" type posts. I do agree with Jasmine on this one --- useless now, thread is locked AND there are some who hold the authority to unlock the thread and if you feel that is what is needed then please do so.
Keita, gave us food for thought about the Bereans and one we should ALL consider....
Also, if a moderator does not agree with an action of another moderator...should that NOT be done in the "moderator section"?
Okay, maybe I was wrong to even ask that? I am getting confused.
cya!
