"An Interview with Pride"
Pride was late, but of course he wouldn't admit to it
He just looked 'round the room for the best place to sit
I wasn't surprised when he chose the largest chair
If he got any puffier, he'd be nothing but air!
Spotting my Bible, he leaned forward with a very smug look
"You know I'm mentioned a number of times, in your precious little book!"
I said "Yes, but you're not viewed in a very favorable light."
I could tell I hit a nerve, as his lips grew thin and tight
"What's your point?!" he huffed and stood up in a rage
"It's the #1 best seller and I'm on page after page!
I'm a hot topic...why, I'm the biggest sin of all!
Who else could have caused ol' Lucifer to fall?"
"What's your motive" I asked, "for doing as you do?"
"I'm just doing what comes natural, just the same as you.
Time is on my side; I've been around since the beginning,
I sure do get a kick, out of man and all his sinning!"
"My motive? Well...that's easy, I simply delight in killing.
Spiritual death leads to mortal death." he said in a tone quite chilling
"The very ones I infect the most, are those who believe they are humble,
They're blinded by me, so easy to deceive and boy, how they can stumble!"
"The first sign I'm around, is being proud you have no pride,
That's a cycle I invented, so I can come and hide.
Proud that you're humble? Now isn't that a joke!
I rob them of their source of strength and leave them spiritually broke."
"I'm really quite flexible and I always start off small,
Just enough of a stumbling block to make men slip and fall.
I only need a little crack to slip myself right in,
And then I grow, before you know it...killing from within."
"I'm always right, I will not own up to ever being wrong,
It's always someone else's fault, I just tagged along.
I'm sorry, please forgive me...are words I do not speak,
Admitting mistakes is not my style, I am not that weak."
When I asked if there was anything at all that he feared
That's when a tiny flicker of doubt soon appeared
"Well...there are a few things, I guess I'd have to say,
One is when those Christians get on their knees to pray."
He banged his fist on the arm of the chair
"There's nothing more destructive than an interceding prayer!
I have to work harder, but lucky for me,
Most people give up, when quick results...they don't see."
"And then there's the blood, what a mess when it's called in!
It's really thick and will always cover every type of sin.
Prayer is one thing, but pleading the blood? Now that is quite annoying!
It loosens up the strangle-hold that I was sure enjoying."
"Anything else?" I questioned, "that interrupts your goal?"
"Yes there is and it aggravates me, cause it makes me lose control!
It's THAT NAME...I won't say it, but you know WHO I mean!
That name that people call on, the name on which they lean!"
"I HATE that name! The very sound can drive me up the wall!
Every single time it's spoken, all my chains begin to fall.
The ones I've lied to...find the truth, the ones I've bound...get free,
The ones I've kept in total darkness...suddenly start to see."
"You must mean the name of JESUS." I innocently said
He flinched and glared and if looks could kill ... I really would be dead!
"This interview is officially over!" he shouted as anger flowed
"A waste of my time, which is very precious, you're lucky I even showed!"
He had actually grown more pompous from all of his boasting
And all that hot air made the room hot and roasting
As he left, he glanced back and said with a sneer
"Remember, you may not see me...but I'll always be near."
It was really quite amazing, if you stopped to think it through
Pride was so involved with himself; he really had no clue!
That he had given the answers away, to beat him at his game
Just plead the blood, when you kneel in prayer and call upon "That Name"
