Shaking the Dust Off...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was doing a study, in Bible study forum, on our walk, so far not many visitors....
But anyway, was thinking about this topic, and decided to begin a seperate thread on it, in light of recent troubles....
Luke 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Luke 9:3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
Luke 9:4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
Luke 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
Luke 9:6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere.
I always thought this "shaking the dust off" was the same attitude as "giving the finger" (please excuse the expression, true though) ... but knowing Jesus, we know that would not be correct. In studying what the rest of the scriptures have to say about our feet, and how dusty they get when we walk through this life, and the refreshment we feel of having that dust removed from washing, I see a different picture. I see that we can carry with us discouragement and anger, things that soil or poison our own life. This wasn't a call to kick dust at others, but to not hang on to the disappointments we encounter, to not let that dust cling to our spirit, but move on, in joy and anticipation of what the Lord has for us down the road.
Also the part of "for a testimony against them" to me is referring to the fact that all things will be accounted for by God, so we do not need to worry about it.
