Six years since the releasing of his album Beyond The Veil, Ian Michaels is back! Bringing a message of holiness and reconciliation, his lyrics and life are filled with a prophetic, fiery cry that compel a listener to delve deeper into the Scriptures.
Michaels is well acquainted with the fires of God's purifying and holy love. During a time of spiritual disillusionment and weakness he dated and hastily married someone who was strictly forbidden by God.
"We seemed like the perfect Messianic couple on the outside," Michaels says with much grief, "But inside we knew the truth. I used to literally pray that the Father would kill me so that I wouldn't have to live another day in that marriage."
"When you've clearly violated God's command for you, marriage to the wrong person does not change His mind."
"We thought by getting married that God would have to bless it", Michaels says with still much pain in his eyes.
"Unless our mates come to us through much prayer and supplication we have them illegally and the marriage will not last," he says quoting well-known prophetess and author Juanita Bynum who herself has suffered the pain of divorce.
After four years of court battles, the loss of reputation and ministry, Michaels' message is stronger than ever. He believes it's time all Believers return to the keeping of the Torah. He also advocates getting rid of pagan-rooted practices in worship and lifestyle.
Raised a Catholic, although his father had Hebrew roots, the 44-year old Michaels has taken a long route to his beliefs concerning the Torah, his Messianic faith and a musical career. His album, Beyond The Veil, is a rare musical treat.
When Michaels was only 10 he had a life-changing experience just after his father's death. It was then, he believes, God was leading him into music and he began playing piano and writing songs, and at age 12 he was given his first guitar.
At age 15, he experienced a new birth in Y'shua (Jesus), and was filled with the Holy Spirit the same year.
Michaels and Kimberly "Nava", his soul mate and a Messianic Believer of Hebrew descent, form the group M'NUKA (Hebrew for Restoration). She has also suffered the painful consequences of marrying outside of God's will. The Father has brought healing from the scars of the past through their union together.
Michaels moved to Israel in 1986 to minister and study Hebrew for five months. It was then he started to re-evaluate the Scriptures apart from the traditional Christian perspective.
"I came to realize that just as the Hebrew people have been blinded from knowing Messiah, the Gentiles have been blinded from knowing the Torah," said Michaels, adding, "Satan hates the Hebrew people who are faithful to Torah. He also hates the Gentiles who trust in Messiah, but he, especially, hates anyone who is doing both," Michaels says referring to Revelation 12:17.
As far as Michaels album, Beyond The Veil is concerned, it came together because of varied talents, particularly, Michael J. Nelson, the project's co-producer, engineer and mixer. Nelson is credited for being the composer of the "old" 700 Club theme.
Michaels spent about nine months on the project. The 14 songs on the album were selected to match the main theme of "entering into the fullness of the Shekinah Glory."
Beyond The Veil was certainly enhanced by the very talented Tom Jones on lead guitar; Mike Cheney's superb fretless bass work and Harry Hindmarsh's awesome drumwork.
Michaels believes such numbers as In the Wilderness, Stillness, and The Secret Place signify the struggle Believers must go through, but others such as Homeland, Latter Day Exodus and the title track, Beyond The Veil, are about coming home when "we reach our heavenly reward."
Called a musical renaissance man who's an accomplished keyboardist, guitarist and singer, he knows all the "tricks" and has an instinct for fresh harmonic progressions.
Energizing, high-powered material coupled with the masterful performances by Michaels and his hand-picked extras, he's a rare talent often compared to the late Keith Green in his intensity as a writer and performer. His music varies in style from classical to jazz to soft rock, often with a touch of Mediterranean overtones.
Michaels excellence as a vocalist and instrumentalist captures the attention of young and old alike.
Beyond The Veil is a stunning musical work containing 14 original works by Michaels that challenges the heart to a deeper intimacy and a closer walk with Y'shua (Jesus).
