Greetings,
I just wanted to leave a word of encouragement in the midst of all the sadness surrounding the topic of marraiges in the body of Christ. After hearing a few weeks ago about the dissolvement of the marriage of yet another saved and sanctified couple that I know and admired (and under horrendous conditions), this week I attended the wedding of a young and beautiful holy ghost filled couple. This couple met a little more than 2 years ago when the bride's pastor had to preach at the groom's church. His testimony is that after kneeling prayer, "I noticed her rising from her knees crying and praising God, and I just knew in my heart that I was looking at my future wife." This young man knew the Lord well enough to know he was hearing from him concerning this young lady.
Well, after service he told his mother about this, and sought her advice. (He wanted his mother to find out who this sister was, etc...). Little did he know that as secretary, she had already approached his mother after the service with all her contact info for a return visit from their pastor. Soon after, he stepped out on faith and sent her an email. She says she started to spam it cause she didn't recognize who he was, but she didnt. They began corresponding but she was not having it when he blurted out I believe in my heart you're my wife. But they continued to correspond via email, and she asked about him, finding out that the older members of their families knew each other from years ago. So, she continued responding to his emails. They finally set a time to go out (to an amusement park or something) for the first time. (She says she began to seek the Lord about him because she wanted to hear from God). It didn't take long for her to hear from God for herself, and, she says, three other people whose spiritual opinion she valued.
He said that prior to this, he had become so discouraged by sisters that were more "aints" than "saints" that he had all but given up hope of finding his bride. She says that God showed her where she would work in the ministry but she never understood how until she knew that she was this young mans wife to be. WOW, right?
He proposed last August and this weekend, a year later, they were married. Let me tell you I have been involved in almost a dozen weddings in the last fifteen years, and this wedding, well, there was just a spirit of sweet peaceful joy and praise. The bridal party marched in on It Is To You I Give The Praise, and the bride marched in to God Is Able. Someone sang the Lords prayer, and poetry was read. The couple spoke to each other in their own words after the vows, and I tell you the whole day, the ceremony, their story, it just revived my faith in marriages.
People of God, there are real stories and real marriages that are working like God wants them to all over. No, they may not be in the lime light, but if we take the time to look, they're there. God always leaves a remnant, right? I think the foundations that these failed marriages were built on is the key to why they do not last, but perhaps that's another post.
