Fulfillment. I know what emptiness feels like. There's no amount of money to fill it.

Vin, I agree with you... I want fulfillment... success can be very empty and it doesn't always give a person peace or joy....

By "success," what exactly are we talking about? Having a lot of money?

By "success," what exactly are we talking about? Having a lot of money? I cant answer that now. I have an answer however. But success means different things to different people

Someone once defined success as a journey and not a destination.
Fulfillment seems to imply the attainment of what is sought for. That is not necessarily money or fame. It could mean a happy marriage, well brought up children, volunteering in a church ministry or service organization.
Once a person determines what is important in the major areas of life and sets their objectives to reach them, they then are on the success journey.

my outlook on success is putting forth 100% in everything that I do, and at the end of the day, knowing that I have done so brings the fulfillment.
In looking at my own life I know there have been times where i have been unsuccessful because I did not do my best, or put forth a better effort. It could be something simple like, giving my child a hug, when requested, and not saying no, not right now, I'm busy doing something. When looking back, these things brings unfillfulment because I have not done and been the best.
Then there are times where, I can look back and and feel both successful and fulfilled. My 4yr,and 6yr can read..why..I put for the effort to read to them at night....that's success. My kids all achieved the AB honor this quarter..that's success. I work part time, make minimal amount of money, but I love where I am in my life right now and wouldn't change it for anything..to me thats success and fulfillment.
so I choose BOTH.

I can only speak for myself based on what I've been through up to this point....I realize I'm still growing and have more I want to accomplish in life.
But to me fulfillment has nothing to do with what I have, how much of it I have. I want to be married. I can't wait until the man of my dreams comes along and makes me feel fulfilled. What will I do in the meantime?
I've had little to no material things and I have more now than I ever have on my own. I'm about to get a whole lot more. But the soul is not fulfilled by material things. I've gone from having nothing to having a little something and there was a sense of accomplishment that lasted only for a while.
But when I look at the word, "fulfilled", I see "filled full". I can't imagine being filled full, by anything or anyone other than God.
Jasmine when I read your last post I see exactly what you are saying. There is a sense of fulfillment when our heart's desires are met. When we have food to feed our children. When I watch my girls eat the food I cooked and they enjoy it. And I do believe that when I'm married there will be a fulfillment that comes from that relationship. As I decorate my little house and make the upgrades and whatnot I will experience a feeling of fulfillment from that.
But for me, still, there is an emptiness in the soul that only God can fill. I've been through enough to know that even when I'm happily married and I'm a very successful author and enjoying all those benefits....I'll still have a hole that will drive me to God to fill it.

We're females. We don't just answer questions...we discuss them.

I believe that it is possible to be successful and yet unfulfilled, but that it is not possible to be fulfilled and yet unsucessfull... To me, it is a matter of awareness at every stage on the journey. What might have made me "feel" like a failure yesterday could very well be what will bring fulfillment tomorrow IF I don't dwell on it in a negative way, but try to understand why it happened, knowing that it all works for good. And, if it does, then I cannot help but be on my way to success

I like the discussion and the answers and some of you have hit the nail on the head. When the Lord asked me this my immediate response was. Lord I would much rather have fulfillment than success. He asked me.. why do you think that way I said well Lord it seems to me that fulfillment is more important because it is walking out your purpose for me... He asked... then how can you have fulfillment WITHOUT having success... He said... Did I not promise my son Joshua that he would have GOOD SUCCESS.... It was then that I realized the Lord was trying to show me something about my mindset. Later in the day He said... Jesus had much success. Look at all the healings and miracles and deliverance that occured in His ministry. He had success. But the FULFILLMENT was the Cross... Just some thoughts... more to come later...
