Nina..thanks for posting this article. My son was telling me about it. Unfortunately the city I live in is on that list. What no one mentioned is that the suicide rate has been high for many years long before the recession. And because this is a city where the elderly retire. Even the cost of living is not as high as many cities..the lack of employment with low employment benefits many find themselves homeless; ironically there are many vacant apartments; yet, with many landlords wanting first and last months rent along with a deposit many are not able to find affordable housing. Eviction notices are not 30 days they are 5 days..it's called a notice to quit and have 5 days to come with the rent..not to mention the increasing utility charges, and the many businesses closing finding a job that pays enough to pay rent is tough.
