Yes... it is a good lesson to that club.... spanking their hand won't help.... If you fell and broke your leg in a store with wet floor and no sign... you can get cash payment for medical bill, lose wages and pain and suffering. They can get cash payment for emotional damage to young children... for each child and the day camp should get something too, they was discriminated and was left to deal with the children who didn't understand what was going on.... So they can put NO BLACK ALLOWED on their door... so you support the Jim Crow... Each child should receive something cause they suffer emotional pain and confusion... This was a day camp and the children was on a field trip... away from the camp... they would be able to travel like all other children and have fun... Making an example out of this place will teach them and other places a lesson... These black and latin children should not be treated that way... I believe that even for those who slip and fall, the amount of money received for pain and suffering (to me) is usually too much... If you want to give them money, fine...but I think that it should be put towards maybe their college fund. Tho, I don't think "throwing money" at the issue is gonna make things any better. College funds... or till they are of age like 18 or 21.... but a small amount of cash should be put in their hands... to shop for school clothes anad supplies... and their camp fee for next summer... just to make them feel they accomplished something..

School clothes (which are uniforms in Philly) and school supplies or next year's camp fee will make them feel like they've accomplished something???

AT, I'm not sure where you're getting Jim Crow from out of all of this. That's a huge leap. You don't want other places to put an invisible no black allowed sign up... Nikkol said to fine the swim club and let those funds go towards opening up another swim club in their community. That would go a long ways towards helping the other kids in the community who might want to swim or learn how. One of the reasons why we as a people are messed up now is because we abandoned the principle of self-sufficiency. All of the other minorities in this nation are doing it and even making inroads into sectors that clearly WE should be dominating (e.g., Koreans in the Black hair care industry). If we were to get back to that principle, that will do more for us as a people than government intervention EVER could. I'm not saying that government intervention plays no part, but it's not supposed to play a leading role in our empowerment as a people.

The community is not suing it is the parent of the children... and the day camp owners... We don't know if they have a pool or not. They were on a field trip... and paid inadvance for this trip... We can not assume these kids are poor, just because they are black. If they were white, it wouldn't be a issue for $$$ go to the kids... I guess only when ifcome to Black kids, don't put $$$ in their hands.. What wrong with putting $$$ away for college or when they of age and a little for them to enjoy now.

Hey Guys, Here in Philly on the news it was stated that the child of the parent who sued came home and told his parents that it was important for him to be "lighter". It was also stated that the mother said her son told her he was going to soak in a bath tub in hopes that it would lighten his skin.
This child was definitely traumatized.... Who knows what the other kids experienced... But in this case the child really took to heart what he heard around him... Just with the simple case that they child needs some professional counseling makes the $50K sound fair to me...

The community is not suing it is the parent of the children... You are correct, it was just one of the parents in this case that sued. If the aggrieved day camp is also suing, then I think any fines should be directed towards that camp (of course) and the money used to build a community pool. The Creative Steps camp had arranged for 65 mostly black and Hispanic children to swim each Monday afternoon at the gated Huntingdon Valley club, which is on a leafy hillside in a village straddling two overwhelmingly white townships.SourceObviously the Creative Steps day camp didn't have a pool in their own community; otherwise, they wouldn't have arranged to use a pool in another community on a regular (not one-time) basis. Otherwise, it would be a big waste of money. A college fund would be great; no disagreement from me there.
