Anybody else sick of hearing about this? For those who don't know, read about it here: www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/07/harvard.htmlHere are my thoughts on it: the police were just doing their job when they went to Gates' home to investigate. And naturally, Gates was quite upset for being investigated for just entering his own home, and when you throw the race factor in, it gets stickier still. I think both parties overreacted to a certain extent, and that's how things got out of control. But I'm curious about the woman who called the police, who has been strangely silent during all the hoopla. She must know that her neighbor is a Black man. Was it the case that all she saw was a random Black man attempting to force his way into a home? Or did it simply not look like the man she knows as her neighbor? What was HER train of thought, and what caused her to call the police? I think those are pertinent questions here.

The woman probably didn't recognize the professor from the back, with jean and a backpack, trying to get into the front door.
The arrest was clearly un-necessary... after the cop saw Prof. Gate IDs, he should have apologized left. I also think it was bad communication between the cop and Prof. Gate.

Krazeboi, Exactly why are you sick of hearing it? I don't deny that Professor Gates said somethings that he shouldn't have. But the fact remains that he was indeed arrested AFTER proving that he lived in the house! Sooooooooooooooo
Wha exactly is the excuse for that?

I'm sick of hearing about it because I believe the entire thing has been blown out of proportion. It was said that Gates was arrested for "disorderly conduct," which is questionable on the part of the police for sure. Personally, I'm not going to agitate the police when something like this really doesn't warrant it. But then again, we don't have all the facts. One thing is for sure, I don't think this is a case of racial profiling at all.

Well, President Obama called both Prof. Gate and the Cop, he invited them to the WH to discuss the situation. This may open the door to train cops on how to approach and handle situations and how citizen should react.....
Remember... the Prof. Gate just came in from china and probably didn't want to be bother by anyone, after a long trip... He was already frustrated, because the front door wouldn't open, than this young white cop talking about a break in...
I hope something good come out of it.... Pres. Obama sounded a little pissed about it and the reporter caught off guard.... that one of his friends.
