Many other christians experiences dont even BELIEVE in the baptism of the Holy Ghost. They dont believe in speaking in tongues or prophecy either. Many dont believe in the supernatural gifts of the Spirit.
Many believe that when the baptism occurs is when one receives the Holy Sprit. This is erroneous and is shown in scripture.
There is a distinct difference between the indwelling which happens at salvation and the baptism which occurs after. For many people it happens when they are saved, BUT it is still a distincly different event.
WHat I abhor is when people tell christians who are saved that they DONT have the Holy Spirit or when they are told they arent really saved because they dont have the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I got save on a college campus, so there were so many different denominations. I remember being late for church service. We had church in the student center, and I didn't know we had a guest speaker. I got in a the end of the service and everybody was in a prayer circle. After church a elderly lady from the guest speaker's church, asked me is I am saved, I told her yes. She asked me how do I know, I told her I accepted Jesus in my heart, she said, you are not telling anything, how do you know!... I became so confused... than a whole group of people surrounded me all was condemning my pant (wearing pant is a sin) and telling me I was not saved. Than one girl who living on campus, but never speak to me, even when I speak first, jump in my face telling me I need to get saved.... I was totally confused and did not know what to say to these ppl... finally someone pulled me out of the midst of them and told me not to listen to them... I notice all the women had on long dresses and all of them had long faces.... I was a babe in Christ and this not only confused me but was frightening, I had a dream that night.... I saw myself praying to God, in the dream, I asked God do I have to speak in tongue to be saved... And Lord show me that if I had to speak in tongue to be saved, I would had me to spoken in tongues the moment I received Him.... Even though I was raise in COGIC when I was very young, but I never notice anybody actually speaking in tongue, I know they where, but never pay attention.... I went home for the summer and the Lord dealt with me the whole time.... I just stayed in the Word and pray... near the end of the summer vocation, I was put on a fast by God... I didn't even know I was fasting, just didn't want to eat. When I return on campus, there was an ice cream truck, I broke the fast with ice cream and did get sick . This was the first and only time I ever saw an Ice cream truck on campus. A young black man with a London accent asked me, did I received the Holy Ghost since you believe? He begin to teach me the Word and broke it down to me... He said believe that you receive it and you shall have it... Praise God for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit till the manifestion come... Everyday I thank God for the Baptism of the HS... One Sunday after service, we watched a move called Theif of the Night part II... After the movie, one person redelicated his life back to Christ and dozens of students join him, I got excited and begin to praise God... and was baptized the very moment with the Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church was not there ... he don't believe in the baptism of the HS, speaking in tongue or any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.... The young man who redelacated his life back to Christ, have been condemn for speaking in tongues by his peers, so he stopped and than backslided because of the rejected from the Baptist on campus that suppose to be his friends.... He was told it was of the devil... So there were extreme on both side... those who say you have to be baptized in the HS and speak in tongues to be saved and those who say it is of the devil right on the campus, which confuse the unchurched babes in Christ. God brought a revival through the young man who taught me about the baptism... many student begin to be baptized in the Holy Spirit....

I think it's interesting that a dichotomy between having the Holy Spirit and being baptized in/filled with the Holy Spirit only exists in certain versions of Pentecostal theology. Just about all other Christian traditions consider the experience to be one and the same. Just food for thought. I AGREE!!!! (hey kb, how are you?) Instead of focusing on what happens when a person x-y-z, how about looking at it from the stand point of what does it mean, spiritually speaking, when a person x-y-z. Example, when a person x-y-z, this means they gain eternal life. I think we will find that as kb hinted, several of these things mean one and the same. receives salvation - receives the holy spirit - is baptized by (or into) the holy spirit/ghost - is filled with the holy spirit/ghost - is saved - the holy spirit comes on or upon someone -

Sis Gap, all is well! And Giants, your point earlier is well-taken concerning other things that other Christian traditions hold to. I was just making the one observation concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I was just making the one observation concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Agreed that this tends to pop up more in the Pentecsotal circles but that mainly because those circles deal more with the ministry and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Many other organzations dont even discuss Him at all.

AT..thanks for sharing your experience with us. Thank God for the young man who didn't come at with you with his own ways..yet, he came with the Word of God. I came from one of those denominations where the by-laws, doctrines, and rules was the standard...and not the Word of God. It's believed by many that don't need the baptism of Holy Spirit...
