Did anyone go see Madea's Family Reunion and if so, what did you think?
If you did not go see it, why not?

I'm not gonna lie...I sure plan to see it at some point. "Madea" cracks me up and that's a pleasure I'll still pay for. But I also couldn't help remembering this exchange Sister Bee and I had on the "Tonex thread": I also thought about this when I was recently reading an Entertainment Weekly magazine interview with Tyler Perry. He was identifying his ministry and announcing that "Madea" would not be around after this film.

I didn't know that Tyler Perry was finally telling Madea to "satdown"...LOL
I went to see it, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I did some of the others - yes it was really funny but I believe "conviction" was telling me I shouldn't be there. That never happened to me before.

LOL! Well, thank you my sista! I love you right back! I didn't know that Tyler Perry was finally telling Madea to "satdown"...LOL Maybe Tyler Perry himself, like a lot of his audience seems to be saying, didn't find "Madea" quite as "amusing" as he used to... FYI:Tyler Perry is the cover feature for April's Essence magazine. Has anyone read that article yet?

I saw the movie and thought it was very good. The part of the movie where the Aunt asks to see her family..and does not like what she saw. It was a very subtle yet, very loud message...many of us have attended family reunions where madness does happen. I liked the way he wrote the movie to show the many ways that families are represented. The article in Essence is very good..I don't believe the April issue has came out, yet. I want to say the issue was March's. If you don't subscribe you maybe able to find a copy at your local bookstore; I don't have my issue I let somebody borrow it and I haven't gotten it back, yet.

My bad! It is the March issue, but apparently it's one of those deals where there are two different covers for it ( www.essence.com/essence/inside). It was because of (and not until) y'all that I remembered, found and actually looked at the March issue that's been buried in my reading basket, so I thought the other cover I saw in passing was a new issue. ::)LOL! Thanks for the correction (and the reminder)! (Btw, since I've been on this thread I've received confirmation, conviction, and correction. Lawd have mercy! ASWSOY, it's all your fault for starting this thread! ;D)

Was there any profanity? I know in the other one there was. I also recall on the part they showed on tv, the clothing (to say the least) was questionable and I do wonder if in 'acting" one necessarily needs to take it "there" in that way...........

It was a very subtle yet, very loud message...many of us have attended family reunions where madness does happen. I liked the way he wrote the movie to show the many ways that families are represented. That was my favorite part of the movie as well. I was told that Cicily Tyson's speech was totally impromptu; it wasn't scripted at all. God knows it was soul-stirring and captured the attention of everyone in the audience. The most profanity I heard was the typical Madea use of "hell" and one mention of the rear (the "a" word). That's about it.
