Personally I think we make far too much of the title thing. We always seem to act like its the people WITH the title that are the problem when I have found in reality its the other people that have the problem. We have no issue whatsoever calling a police officer.. Office Johnson.. We have no problem saying President Bush.. We have no issue saying Doctor Williams... But when we get to the church.. all of a sudden its people ego trippin over titles.. and we act like it just the black church that addresses people by titles when it is NOT just the black church. I know plenty of christians of other background ( white, hispanic and asians ) who address their leadership as Pastor this.. or Elder that.... Personally I think someone on this thread had the right idea. Pray and ask the LORD to reveal to you why you seem to have an issue with these things.. Maybe its not the other person. Maybe its you... If I may use your words, bro. BINGO!

I don't have a problem being called Sis_________, I have a problem with this..we are friends have been for almost 2 yrs.; Sunday - Sat the previous week it's Toni, then Sunday morning it's Sis Toni...
As a matter we were in a Caucscian church (together..that's were met) and it was very rare to hear them address anyone by Bro. Lee or Sis Elissa..brother had a problem calling the Pastor; Pastor___________ called him Bro______. I was Toni for until last week..I don't have a problem with the Sister_______bit, because I have friends who are Pastors, my best friend is a Minster..I have friends in the same fellowship that I have know for almost 8 yrs..we address one another by first name and it's nothing wrong with heart concerning the matter. Some things we do are not of God; yet, we place God's name on it and expect everyone to accept it as law. Titles tend foster a false sense of humility, breeds and tolerates the spirit of pride, allows us to show partiality and favorism which God is against. Think about like this how many times has someone not received prayer from someone because they are Bro James and and Pastor Jimmy ? Yet, does someone suddenly changing your name from Toni to Sis Toni show me their great love and respect for me..no, it doesn't. And because we're now a part of new fellowship does that change things ? Or does it mean there is some things God may be wanting us all to step out of because he has greater work in store and he doesn't want the old way of doing things to hinder the new ??!!
