The Lord told me ...

Why is this such a common trend with people. I find it interesting in the bible that you don't hear many people going around saying the Lord told me. But nowadays, people say "The Lord told me..." like he is their buddy. Now, I do believe that God does speak in our times, and it's not a select who are capable of hearing Him. However, why does it seem to be a trend today rather than what is deem as precious as it generally was in the bible days. Granted, there were people in the bible days who went around saying "God told me..." and it wasn't true. By why is it loosely used today. I believe there needs to be a restoration of reverance for God when it comes to speaking in his name. It seems as if God speaks more today to a person in one week than he did the entire life span of those in the bible. I hope I'm making sense.

Yes, you are making sense.

I believe it is used so much to make one sound deeper, more spiritual or one may feel that it will cause people to listen to what they have to say.

I say, just say it and allow the Holy Spirit to do the rest without you feeling you have to add the stamp of approval (the Lord told me).

EDITED TO ADD: Not everyone have this as their motive. There are many who are truly geniune when they use the phrase.

The one thing that I would add is that God speaks a lot more than many of us may think.... I remember when I first found out that God spoke to people (I was in college) I could look back on my life and see different things that I knew that God had told me.

The other thing is that we have the HG living on the inside which is leading and guiding us in all truth. We know that in the OT the HG came upon people for a certian period of time and that was it..... and in looking at the NT, as the Bible being the inspired word of God, God truly did do a lot of talking.

For some, I think that some people are giving recognition to God by acknowledging what he has said. Of course there will be those that pollute it and aren't saying what God says...... Some would see that as reverencing God.

It could also be looked at the way there are people who whenever they say something will saying "The Lord's will"......

Now granted you'll have the imposters. But we must be careful to not lump everyone in the same category.

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things,

John 10

1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

IMO it should be the state of our relationship where we are talking to the Lord constantly and the Lord is talking to us. We have the Holy Ghost living on the inside of us. He is the one who teaches us, guides us, helps us and instructs us.

Also the Lord told me doesnt always mean there was a booming voice from heaven. It could mean God spoke, I could mean God illuminated a scripture that spoke to you, It could be a dream in which the Lord shared something, It could be a vision, It could be a prophetic word you received some one...

The Lord Told me IMO simply acknowledges GOD as the source of truth and revelation.

Amen Giant sir! That is the truth ;D Some people lie on God sometimes , The Say the Lord said this, The Lord said that, and they know good in well that the Lord didn't tell them that.lol ;D We do have to take an evaluation thou and make sure that it is God speaking to us. Especially those that are babes in Christ. The Scripture that came to me as well say" My sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow" ;D I hope Im making since I am terrible at expalining stuff.

I actually believe that the reason why people did not go around saying: the lord told me is because it was accepted that as part of one's walk with the lord that one will be hearing from Him if one was truly born again.

Jesus talks a lot. He has a lot to share with His servants and His lovers and so i actually believe that the lord told me is every truly born again believer's right to the point that it is not AN EVENT when He speaks now that is when it is scary.

How can a child who claims to live in the same house as a parent only hears their voice once in a blue moon? And frankly that is what is scary about some of us christians these days.
