I'll post the article on the effects of perming our hair at a later time. Perhaps if I had said kills the natural state/chemicals of our hair. My hair is natural, and it can hurt when I comb it. And when I hit my fingernails against the car door they hurt too.
The article does mention some of what you have said. I will copy the article from my stylist.

Thistoo LOL, sweetie when your hair hurts, it is the scalp that hurts not the actual hair and when you hit your finger it is the nerves and tissue in the skin that hurts not the actual nail.  There have been studies that has shown that people have visited a cemetery of "dead" bodies and uncover tombs and still find hair growing as well as finger nails because these are dead cells that have no life. It is the healthiness of the skin, nerves, blood etc that determines what is healthy. Just my two cents |

OK, spoke to quickly. Should have considered what I was saying before I wrote it  . The Holy Spirit is teaching me to admit when I am wrong. I will post the article soon. The article points to the relaxers effects on the strands of the hair. I have had many relaxers, and I believe most stylist are careful not to put the relaxer on the scalp. At least that's been my experience. Even though I have chosen not to relax my hair anymore, I will never bash stylist. I've invested too much money in beauty salons. If I could get a return on the monies I've invested in relaxers, weaves, etc., I'd be financially blessed, for sure. If only  |

I love perm.. perm loves me!!! (smile)... my sisters wear their hair natural and love it... I don't knock it at all, I think it look beautiful on some folks....

Between you and me - since I've been going through this transition, my hair is screaming GO TO THE SALON AND PERM ME! But, I'm determined to stay the course. Learning a lot about patience and self scarifice. This is my journey, not to be imposed on others. I had a hair and hair salon addiction. I loved hair salons and hair salons loved me. When the pastor would say: look in your checking account, see where your money is going,and you'll see what you worship - I had to go Ouch  I was out of control with my hair addiction.
