I actually had read something in reference to Joel Osteen being a false prophet and there was a link stating that King stated in messages things that were contrary... can't seem to find it at this moment however, if and when I do, I'll PM you the link.

Was the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King a Bible believing, born again Christian? Why would you ask such a question? LANL, I don't take things like salvation for granted and just because someone has/had the title of Rev. ( I know you were joking) doesn't mean he/she belongs/belonged to the Father. Here's a link to start: www.jesus-is-lord.com/king.htmJust by reading some of Dr. King's papers, who he belonged to certainly comes into question. I do however keep in mind that when writing doctoral level papers (and some were written in that capacity) there are certain guideline that are to be followed when writing such papers, but some of the arguments that Dr. King presented begs the question of whether or not the man was truly a born again, bible believing Christian. Why would I ask such a question? God is the only one beyond reproach. Everybody and everything else should be questioned if the fruit doesn't look quite right.

He's dead... does it really matter? I don't know if any of "us" have been in contact with him on a personal basis to know his fruit. What we know about what he wrote is somewhat based on the time, audience and situation.

Did you read that on Iconbusters? I seen something a while back on that... I can't remember the site.... and you know I'm "mad at that".....LOL There's quite a few that talks about many "prominent icons" of the church and how what they do is very "questionable".

no offense as this is not directed at the originator of this post, but does this really matter? Should WE even care? I'm saying we..but honestly I don't care whether he was or not. His faith has nothing to with my faith. I don't believe the word of God, because he said to, I believe it because I know God. His preaching/teaching/stand against segregation sparked a great movement for the African American people. It helped them to overcome, and Yes it drew our people of old, to Christ.
Honestly, I think us "christians" today focus is on the wrong things. There is a moral decay in Christianity right now, and for individuals to go back up and question whethere or not Martin Luther king was a Man of God.
Wow..Lets question the ones in today's pulpits. Those who are Continously changing their doctrines, and coming up with "new revelations" from the Lord, that goes against His character and His Holy Word.

Good points, Jasmine.
I actually brought this point up before on a message board. It was also brought up about how he was actually a seminarian, and some of those the things you have to right about must reflect what you've actually been taught, not what you actually believe.
A Baptist pastor friend of mine would say that he was saved, but would be classified as a "liberal" in his faith.

Does it matter?
Yes. I'll tell you why.
Someone can be celebrated, loved the world over, have the title of Reverand and have made a major impact on the world, but if he doesn't believe in Christ and Him crucified, he's still headed for hell, no matter what he's done for the world.
Some consider Dr. King's words straight from God and he himself has been elevated to near sainthood because of those words. Now, if that same man's words called into question the deity of Christ as well as the resurrection, I absolutely think his statements deserve examination.
For me, this topic is personal, as one of Dr. King's children is an elder in my church and Dr. King holds a special place to the church leadership and in some of our services. If my church leadership goes with the world and just accepts what's been taught about Dr. King, for me that's a problem. So I am looking to glean from any thoughtful posts on the subject.
My post is not so much about calling into question the man's salvation because ultimately I don't know where he is, as it is about addressing false prophets, (IF that is the case) how Satan can be tranformed into an angel of light, and how Christians can be deceived, which are topics that can aid any Christian in examining the men and women of God in leadership positions today.
This is not just about Dr. King, its about Satan's greatest tool, deception, and I'm calling into question whether or not we as Christians are on our toes even when someone/something looks and sounds wonderful.

That is sorta my point. He's dead. We can't dread /"Cry" over spilled milk. And what does the world think about him? They recognize king as a CIVIL rights LEADER, who was also a reverend. Who used the scriptures to promote peace, and equality, who actively pursued not resorting to violence to be recognized an equal. What kind of devil would do such a thing? What kind of devil would stand up against his own kingdom. After I wrote the above statement God brought to me King Nebucanezzar. We must admit that the King did not know GOD. But God used him Any how? Why? Despite his own spiritual condition..He had a purpose to fulfil. Its the exact same with Martin Luther king. Whether his spiritial condition which we have been taught, is truth or not..HE had a purpose to fulfil. Yes, deception is one of satan's greatest tools, however Why are christians so easily deceived? Honestly, Im tired of Christians being so weak, that they cannot take full use and advantage of the Holy Spirit. If, they wont rely on the Holy Spirit.. Why do they need Him? HE is the discerner of TRUTH. He is strengthened in us by our relationship with Christ. If we are being decieved so easily, then we need to establish a relationship with Jesus. We need to read our own bibles, and stop listening to every new revelation. Their ain't nothing new under the sun. No NEW revelation will go against his word, and if it does, it ain't from Him. I believe that It doesn't matter what Dr. King believed or even what is written on these papers. He will have to answer to God, and whether he get the words we all long to hear, " Well done thy good and faithful servant, or those words we dread that would cause us to plead our case, But Lord didn't I do all these things in your name, Didn't I help bring many to come to know your son, Didn't I , Didn't I, Didn't I, Didn't I. Only to hear Depart from me ye worker of iniquity, I never knew you"ll. He's already dead. His influence did was it was supposed to do. Cause people to think about segregation, and how the bible speaks about Unity.

Jasmine, I can appreciate what you're saying but it doesn't address my post.
My post is about examining the views, thoughts, speeches, and statements of a man who is considered a Christian. I’m not talking about what King’s purpose was, as even Satan has a purpose. We all do.
We can discuss what happened to Judas based on his actions and works and doing so isn’t crying over spilled milk, it would be a discussion based on the Word, I would hope. That’s what I’m attempting with King’s quotes. Do they agree with the Word? Are these the statements of a man who has revelation knowledge of the Word? Can his statements or views be misconstrued?
Whether it’s the Apostle Paul, John of Damascus, Rembrandt, Spurgeon, Harriet Tubman or C.S. Lewis, personally I read about and study great men and women of God and I often learn from something they’ve said, done or expressed. King gave me pause when I read what he wrote, hence my question. I’m asking a question based on his writings, only. It’s a study.
Yes, King is dead, but his writings aren’t. That’s my topic. That’s what I’m putting up for examination and discussion.
Like these two statements he said in a paper, for example:
On the virgin birth – “A clue to this inquiry may be found in a sentence from St. Justin's First Apology. Here Justin states that the birth of Jesus is quite similar to the birth of the sons of Zeus. It was believed in Greek thought that an extraordinary person could only be explained by saying that he had a father who was more than human. It is probable that this Greek idea influenced Christian thought.”
And
On Jesus’ resurrection - “The last doctrine in our discussion deals with the resurrection story. This doctrine, upon which the Easter Faith rests, symbolizes the ultimate Christian conviction: that Christ conquered death. From a literary, historical, and philosophical point of view this doctrine raises many questions. In fact the external evidence for the authenticity of this doctrine is found wanting. But here again the external evidence is not the most important thing, for it in itself fails to tell us precisely the thing we most want to know: What experiences of early Christians lead to the formulation of the doctrine?
What do these statement express or what can we learn from them or about the author?

Again, we have to look at WHY this paper was written. And that is what we need to find out before we assume to believe that King was not a man of God, or that he didn't believe in the virgin birth, or Jesus ressurrection.
Why was this paper written? What was the stipulations surrounding the paper. What were the instructions? When these questions can be answered, then we can draw an unbiased conclusion.
