Has anyone ever attended a House Church? If so, what is your experience with them?

Yes, the services that they had were no different than those I attended a "church" building. There was music, at one place there was praise and worship and actually it better, because the focus was not on a group of people on platform, yet, there was a group of gathered collectively with one purpose in mind which was to worship and seek the Lord. For some odd there was more freedom. Just like with small groups the setting is more initimate and without less hang ups.

Thanks Still!
Would you attend again? What did you like best? Was everyone able to "play a part"? Was it a true "House Church" (like part of the House Church Movement) or was it someone holding church in their home because they did not have a building?

One church started out of the home..it was called the "Crowded house" because they kept growing when I started to attend that fellowship they were renting from another church..yet, still having gatherings at their home..I loved it because everyone was able to participate..and still I loved the freedom. Another fellowship I attended did cell groups out the homes of the leaders..ASWSOY..the spirit always moved and because the setting was smaller ..you could not get of participating...what I loved about that was you really got to know people outside of the "churchy" atmosphere...the titles were dropped and everyone was there to learn no matter what they did or did not do in the ministry. As for the other fellowship..they didn't have a building and the people that were a part of that church were people who had all left the same church just as the Pastors had. They now have a building..I went as a guest because someone else was looking for a church to attend and I took them..but, it was not a place I would attend on a regular basis.

I chose not to attend that particular fellowship because we all came from the same church and many of the people who worshipped there left the other church and waited for the Pastor to start his church. They all left hurt, wounded, and bleeding and that was not the place for me to be. I was actually attending another fellowship..where I began to grow and heal until the Lord pulled me out..kicking and screaming...

My spiritual mom had a house church, too !!! And it was so awesome !! I liked it because you had people coming from all over the city of Boston and it's suburbs sitting at one table. She spent time studying and waiting on the Lord for the message that night. Sometimes we didn't leave her house until midnight !!

Most of the churches i have attended have been house church style that is the best way for me to grow. I cannot cope in mega churches maybe because naturally i am a recluse. I am not against mega churches however i do believe that even in those churches there shd be cell groups or bible study so that people can be sherpeded properly.

Beulah..hit on something..growth. I agree that we need to be shepherded properly. I am in a small church now..and they have broken off into smaller groups yet, there is no consistency and our meetings have been known to go in the wrong direction away from the what the lesson was that night.
