Among other things I was also diagnosed with Hypothyroidism...Which makes loosing weight extremely hard so, I just wanted to share this since alote of us are talking about loosing weight and nutrition....I just wanted to share what this docter said on this web site... I found this at www.allexpert.com under " loosing weight with hypothyroidism im sure Im not the only one dealing with this.... I will come back and share the symptoms of this as well so if you have any of theses symptoms you should sonsult your docter... Be Blessed! JessUnfortunately, most people with hypothyroidism find it difficult to lose weight. In my opinion, this may be in part due to the way the thyroid hormone is supplemented. Here are my suggestions: Diet -- plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (1/2 plate), a fist-sized portion of lean protein, and a small portion of complex carbs (wild rice, whole grain pasta, etc). I am not necessarily a low carb advocate, though cutting out the high sugar, high fat snacks is always a plus. Drinking plenty of water will help with appetite suppression. Exercise -- Here's the rub. You need to choose an activity that you enjoy, and that you can do routinely. Your schedule sounds grueling, but I think that exercise will help your fatigue. Anything from pilates to walking to jogging, swimming, Tai Chi, yoga, weights, whatever.... Make it part of your routine during the day, and frankly, the more days you do it, the better off you'll be. Meds -- talk to your doctor about potentially adding Cytomel or T3 in a low dose. This is an additional type of thyroid medication that can often make people with hypothryoidism feel a bit better. Having said that, it is not 100%, and much of your fatigue may in fact be due to the schedule you keep. Depending on the ages of your children, you have a full plate. Parents (my wife and I included) often neglect our health because of the time we want to spend with the kids. My suggestion would be to at least take some personal time once or twice a week for yourself, even if it's simply doing the grocery shopping alone, or going for a walk alone. I know, easier said than done..... I have 3 kids myself. Best of luck.

But for those who are having difficulty loosing weight despite trying all the normal routes making sure the thyroid is functioning properly may be the first step to restoring the body’s hormonal balance.

Jessica, I am on synthroid too and the medicine may very well be attributing to your mood swings and suicidal tendencies.....
Please make sure your blood levels are checked regularly and please tell your doctor that you are experiencing these emotional problems as they may need to adjust your medicine to stabilize your thyroid levels.
Jessica, you must exercise daily with this disease and you must keep a positive outlook.....
People who do not have a thyroid condition can not understand the emotional challenges one face (especially women because the thyroid regulate your hormones.)

I know I just had my levels check not to long ago and my docter said that my levels where fine and too just continue the same medicatin that I am on.... Maybee I need a second opinion, my docter maybee a quack LOL

Yes, I experienced major hair loss and the texture of my hair changed so I started loading up on my vitamins because that medicine can cause a vitamin deficiency too..... I take Geritol tonic in a bottle and it seems to be helping me....but be careful with the Geritol tonic as old people say "there's a baby in every bottle!" LOL

Yes, I experienced major hair loss and the texture of my hair changed so I started loading up on my vitamins because that medicine can cause a vitamin deficiency too..... I take Geritol tonic in a bottle and it seems to be helping me....but be careful with the Geritol tonic as old people say "there's a baby in every bottle!" LOL Me too, the texture of my hair has changed as well its weird I always had long thick course hair now its fine its still long all most past my waist but it has gotten alote thinner and finner over the last couple of years and its kind of scary.....Im going to have to try getting me some more vitamines and the geritol....Lord have mercy I dont want to loose any more of my glory!!!

LOL OH MY GOODNESS NO! I've been on synthroid since Sept 06. I haven't had hair loss though but I've noticed lately that my hair is quite dull looking. I recently got it cut almost all off so I can grow it out again. (bad hairdo. wrong person sewed in a weave and cut through my hair! i know!) But I have noticed that my thickness is coming back especially in the top. I'm gonna try my best to stay natural and just flat iron for straightness. I'm glad you said that though so I'm going to be sure to keep an eye on it too. So far so good. But I do take vitamins, especially since my thyroidectomy. I started JuicePlus last week, plus I take Magnesium, iodine, MSM, Omega3 and a B-complex. That's kind of a lot but I figure if I can put food in my mouth everyday I can put vitamins in my mouth everyday. Oh plus I have to take up to six Caltrates a day because when they took my thyroid they damaged my parathyroid gland, which controls calcium levels. I also take Cinnergen to help control blood sugar levels because thyroid health is connected to diabetes. This is also why I take the magnesium, and iodine. Both are connected to thyroid levels and the lack of them contribute to diabetes.

Having a fit losing weight. I walk anywhere from 2-3 miles a day and no weight loss. Blood pressure is excellent though. Better than ever. My doctor says it's my diet but he also recommened seeing another endocrinologist. Between January and April of 07 I lost 15 pounds then turned around and gained 27. Can't seem to get a single one of them to move. I need prayer!

Can't seem to get a single one of them to move. I need prayer! I couldn't lose weight either....but my endo put me on Metformin and I started Jenny Craig.....and lost almost 10 pounds in less than 2 months without much excersises...... I do Jenny Craig some but I exchange my foods out as Jenny is very expensive but it worked and just remember my portion controls.... I feel better too! ask your Dr. about Metformin because many thyroid patients are insulin resistance.... and the Metformin help regulate the blood sugar and of course I cut out all sugars and it has truly helped...
