It is just me! but that song is based on the scripture that says to live is Christ and to die is gain.....
When accepting Christ he replaces all of that, he fills your heart with love, that song does not say that it goes on and on about to live is Christ and to die is gain.....and he sings it so melancholy...
IMO it just doesn't flow well.....
In regards to worshiping Christ through a song, yes I believe in that with my whole heart... but for me to sing "I was on the streets and I dipped in the cooling water and became whole" is not glorifying God. That's not even scripture based.... Furthermore who is that song helping.... except that it may sound good and have a good beat....
But me singing " Lord I love you because you looked beyond my faults and allowed me to experience your wonderful mercy and grace. I love you because you are awesome, i was living in sin and you washed me and gave me the gift of salvation and filled me with your love." To me that is glorifying God.

"I don't even know, where my life would be, if you hadn't shown, shown your love towards me. Same meaning,.just different words.

So do you think the song "your grace and mercy" is "pure"? what is your definition of "glorifiying God via song? Some songs deal with praise (because of what he has done), while other songs deal with worship (inspite of). In my opinion they both gives glory to God... even if one is about thanking god for being baptized, or if one is worshiping him because of his unconditional love.. Its about diversity for me. I actually listen to all types of Gospel.. I have this worship cd called.."sounds of worship" with songs on it called... Lord I lift your name on high, and Blessed be the name of the Lord.. but there are times when I need some of pastor donnie and his ..."live and he loved me, Died and he saved me, burried he carried my sins far away.. rising he justified, freed me forever".. LOL.. or I know it was the blood, I know it was the blood, I know it was the blood for me.... one day when I was lost, jesus died on the cross, I know it was the blood for me... But then when im in devotion, sometimes I put on... "there is none like you, no one else can touch my heart like you.. I can search through all enternity and find ..there is none like you....

OoOOOh...Thats my CD. And most of the artists on Sounds of Worship are caucasian. Shout unto God, I could sing of your Love Forever, My heart is in you Lord. We exalt thee. I hear ya beck, I listen to all kinds of gospel music also...Like right now. I got fred hammonds, playing in my office His song says: I need more of you, (more than the air i need to breath), I need more of you, (more than the water that I drink) More of you, I need you more and more Jesus. Once Im done with that cd,.I'm going to pop in L. Spencer and testament, and then Lucinda Moore. All different in how they present their songs, but the message is there it's prevalent.

Youth For Christ.
And about the song "Cooling Water," I was having something of a mini-debate about that song with some of my fraternity brothers. The gist of that song is comparing the freedom of the soul with something in the natural. It's basically no different than the psalmist saying, "Like the deer pants after the water, so my soul pants after You." It's using something in the natural to describe the spiritual.

Wherever you are Whatever you've been going through God says the struggle is over for you You've been in this place long enough And your mountainside has been rough The struggle is over for you

Sorry..I am a little late with this post. Sometimes we the "people of God" place God in a box. And alot of it is racism...every though that's something we don't like to address in the body of Christ. I currently attend a causican church and I have seen the differences in the attitudes of my fellow congregants when Henry Steele, Hillsongs, and KirK Franklin, and Mary Mary is played. When Hillsongs and the songs that we consider as contemporary gospel..is played..hands go up in adoration and there are "appearances" of worship unto the Lord..when Kirk, Mary Mary, and others that we consider as black gospel..the place automatically turns into a dance club. There some wonderful artists from both sides; yet, I have found out that if one has set their heart to sincerely worship the Lord; one will find their hands going up without the coaching and cheerleading from the praise and worship "team" or "band".

While Kirk and Mary Mary definitely have some beats that will make you bob your head (and ain't nothing wrong with that), they also have some tracks that will make you go straight into worship. For Kirk, I'm thinking songs like "Jesus You're My Everything," "Don't Cry," "My Life, My Love, My All," "Without You," "My Life Is In Your Hands," "Holy Is The Lamb," etc. And Mary Mary has their cuts as well.
