Hey All,
There has been a lot of discussion on political parties, and there respective issues they represent, such as Abortion, Gay Rights, and etc. However, one thing I noticed during this election is that NO party touched on a "Right to Die" ticket.
in 1997, Oregan was currently the only state that legalized "Physician assisted suicide", and assisted suicide however since this past election 2 states have adopted this law.
There are alot of people who are pro-life with regards to abortion, but vary in view when it pertains to someone who has been diagnosed as "terminally ill",and want to end their life?
Recently, I read on the BBC, (london news) that a 13 year old girl, has won the right to refuse a potentially life-saving heart operation. Doctors said she would die within six months unless she had a transplant and warned her family they faced a court order if they refused to bring her back to hospital.
You can read more on the story here,news.stv.tv/uk/39061-teenage-girl-wins-right-to-die/..I don't know how to do that "here" link..lol
In this case, the teenager is choosing not the have the operation, and spend her remaining six months, with her family...but what about those individuals who opt to have administered a lethal injection as their way to end their life? AND by a physician who has pledge to do no such thing, (hippocratical oath).
For whatever reason, I chose Assisted Suicide as my research paper in the course, Research Information and Utilization. (Res110)..At that time, I had no clue how hot this item was. I learned alot, ( kevorkian, Schiavo and etc).. but did not know that several states had this item on their election ballot.
What are your thoughts.
