Going rate to kill pastor - $250 Rewards offered for murdering Christians by: Chelsea Schilling
Extremist groups are offering money, food and alcohol to anyone who murders Christians and destroys their homes.
The violence is nothing new in Orissa, India, where India's Communist Party estimates that more than 500 Christians have been killed by Hindu mobs in Orissa since late August, 12 times more than official government claims of only 40 homicides.
But now the stakes are even higher – and pastors have a bounty on their heads.
Faiz Rahman, chairman of Good News India, said Hindu militants are targeting Christian leaders, the Christian Post reported.
"The going price to kill a pastor is $250," he said.
Rahman, a head of several orphanages in Orissa State, said he's helped 25 pastors to leave refugee camps, but 250 Christian leaders are still in shelters.
"All of the pastors are high value targets," Rahman told the UK-based Release International. "We've got to get them out of the refugee camps."
An All-India Christian Council spokesman said, "People are being offered rewards to kill, and to destroy churches and Christian properties. They are being offered foreign liquor, chicken, mutton and weapons. They are given petrol and kerosene."
One official said he personally authorized "cremation of more than 200 bodies" found in jungles after Christians were blamed for the death of Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on Aug. 24. They continue to be persecuted even though Maoists openly admitted to murdering Saraswati.
Thousands of homes and churches have been destroyed, and an estimated 50,000 Christians have been forced to flee the violence. Mission Network News estimates 5,000 Christian homes have been burned and 200 churches ruined. According to the Christian Post, 30,000 people remain in government-operated refugee camps. Tens of thousands are living in forests – many seriously wounded.
Father Manoj, based at the archbishop’s office in Bhubaneshwar, said Christians remain in hiding.
"They are too scared to go home. They know that if they return to their villages they will be forced to convert to Hinduism."
Religious rights group Barnabus Fund told the group Hindu militants "forced" Christians in Orissa to "convert" to Hinduism by threatening them with rape if they refused.
Neighbors reportedly gang-raped a Hindu woman after her Christian uncle refused to renounce his faith, according to reports.
Another Christian woman named Jaspina was told by neighbors, "If you go on being Christian, we will burn your house and your children in front of you." She and her family were forced to eat cow excrement to "purify" themselves of Christianity.
Other Christians were doused with gasoline and told to participate in conversion ceremonies or be lit on fire.
This week, Hindu extremists said they have set a deadline for the capture of Saraswati's murderers. If the killers are not caught by Dec. 15, they promised to begin a massacre on Dec. 25, Christmas day.
According to the latest report, Orissa's Catholic bishops wrote an ominous letter to the state's chief minister. It read, "This conflict is a calculated and pre-planned master plan to wipe out Christianity from Kandhamal in order to realize the hidden agenda … of establishing a Hindu nation."

Why would things get to that point in the US?
In my opinion... we need to stop doing business with countries like India... I'm tried of calling customer service of a company that I think is american and getting someone there!

It's gonna be very difficult now...esp. since US has become the "melting pot" of everything. In many other countries, their isn't as much diversity. But I do believe that opening up moreso towards overseas was during the Clinton Administration and I doubt that we'd turn away from doing that now....

Next, they would grab their mailing lists, throw a towel around their head and fly out of the country... ;D (I'm naughty)

uhmmm... Nikkol...
Why blame the Clintons... I do believe it was our current president Bush who made it a point to allow all of Bin Laden's family out of the US safely because he was doing business with them before even the word got out as to WHO took down the World Trade Center. on 9/11. It is also documneted that Bush didn't allow the CIA to question these people before flying them out of the country....
Whose Best Interest was he looking out for??? Clearly not the ole USA...
And let's not forget that It was the CITIZENS of the US both republican and democratic that push for the stop of the Middle Eastern company buying a company from England that would have put them in CONTROL of our ports!!!
And Bush was for it....
I think we as citizens as well as Christians need to be careful of all theats folks are doing in the name of making money...
I'm not to thrilled with the idea that this last president gave a bunch of tax breaks to the rich... Yet still spent money that we didn't have... and who are we in debt to?
China and the Middle East!
Does that keep us safe?
Seriously Nikkol.... Bush put us in more danger than Clinton ever did...

You stated: My Answer: Therefore, I'm confused where the rest of your post was coming from and why.... but to answer your post, I think that tax breaks for the "rich" do trickle down to others whether it be by goods/services or just to stimulate the economy (which is done by ppl buying/selling). There was a good thread (I believe on F&F) which gave a very good understanding to how this worked.... which can be found HERE The point of the thread was to look at what's going on overseas and how more and more ppl are believing that persecution is coming to the US. hence me saying and I believe it's worth stating again: Are we ready to have to deal with that same thing here in the US?

Nikkol....
My point was that you have suggested that some how Clinton was opended the door to the US becoming more unsafe... maybe my first question to you should have been to ask you exactly how you see this to be the case?
But ultimately my point was to suggest that it was the actions of our current president that has put us at risk lately...
Lastly please explain Nikkol your concern about the US being a melting pot as a way for the US to be more in danger of us Christians being persecuted?
It is this type of thinking that had people put Bush in office a second term yet he was the one putting us most at risk...

Also Nikkol... I think one of the problem that we have here in the US is that a lot of compnies or the rich are not really for the US as much as they are for personal gain... For example... Why are we in debt to China when we have things like this going on? www.crosswalk.com/news/religiontoday/11596402/Check out the link to that article... it talks about Pastors being under questioning and attack in China... I think we the US would be a lot safer if we choose not to do business with the countries that happen to be against Christians.... But when it comes to big business why is it that same people who claim fear fo being attacked seem to have a deaf ear? Kitty

The point was that it added to the melting pot that the US already had. It's one thing to have ppl from different countries living in the US. But when we start allowing our US businesses to start using workers from other areas, it creates a greater need/dependency on workers from other countries. I doubt that anyone who had a business if they had a choice of paying someone $4/hr from another country would instead higher someone doing the same thing making $8/hr....the next part of the answer will come a little lower.....
Every president has to deal with the "issues" of the prior president(s). So we've been at risk for many years....... I wouldn't put it all on Bush the issues we have....at the same time, I wouldn't say that nothing bad/bad decisions weren't made in this presidency either. Actually, every president has their good.....and bad.
In America, although it was founded pretty much on Christian principles, we've allowed for everyone to come to America. This is unlike overseas where you have many countries that are solely one religion and if you aren't you can be killed. There's a magazine called "Voice of Martyrs" which goes into details about the persecution that's going on around the world..... we see how there's already some persecution already now. There are companies by which even saying "Merry Christmas" is offensive. It use to be the NORM to see a nativity scene around Christmas and now many places can't do that because it's offensive. However, you'll see things for Ramadan, etc. Even saying things like G-d Bless You is frowned upon. Christians as seen as intolerant because of their view on marriage. It is said that Christians shouldn't be able to force their beliefs on others....yet the fact that they want Christians to accept the practice isn't seen as them forcing their beliefs on Christians. Some churches are getting fined as being "too loud" when some cars going down the street or even some parties have a higher decibel limit and aren't getting in trouble. They are trying to make pastors get charged with a "hate crime" by saying that homosexuality is wrong... or if they don't want to grant civil unions.....There was even a time when most stores were closed on Sunday for church...... not anymore. To some, these may be small things....but as time progresses, it'll get worse.....but we know that things will get worse....and the minute we hear peace, get ready for WAR.....
Honestly, it is more difficult getting involved in something after it has started versus being there since the time it started. Almost like starting a new job, it takes a while to get acclamated. Whether we liked him or not, Bush had already been there 4 years and had a better understanding of what was going on than would a "newcomer".
