Dr. Betty Price Issues A Warning to Ministers, Their Wives And Mistresses
Betty Price knows about boundaries. She and her husband set them years ago to steer clear of the scandals that have brought a lot of high profile ministries and ministers down.
Says Price, “It could have happened to him. He certainly had a lot of women around him, and a lot of them tried to get to him, but because he made these particular rules for himself, that’s the thing that kept him going with no scandal.”
And today with 56 years of wedded bliss to their credit, Dr. Betty Price, wife of renowned televangelist, Dr. Frederick K.C. Price, is often sought out for advice from the wives of other pastors, many of whom are dealing with scandal and adultery.
“One wrote and said she was having an affair with this Bishop and she said if I told you who it was you would simply fall over, anyway she was telling me how it got started, and she didn’t plan to get in anything like that but of course the Bishop didn’t want to stop it either, even though he was married.” Price showed the letters to her daughter, Angela, who urged her to write a book.
The book, “Warning To Ministers, Their Wives And Mistresses”—releasing in bookstores on June 4— deals not only with the stories of other ministers wives who have found themselves in the midst of scandal, but some of her own experiences.
“Before this ministry took off, I remember a particular woman came to that church claiming she was here for God. Everyday she had a message or prophecy for him. She would always wait after church too see him, called the house and he always would say well I’m not involved with her, but I didn’t like the relationship. I knew he wasn’t involved in anything at that time, but it could have led to something.
“What I did was tell him, if you keep that relationship going I’m out of here… I’m not doing anything to make it look like everything is alright, because I can’t live like that. From that time on he would not spend time with any woman unless I was around.”
For the women who stay, Price believes security is a key factor.
“They are afraid that they’re not going to be taken care of. But that’s still going to come to an end, because the sins are only going to be allowed for so long, so you may as well stand up for righteousness. The reason I took my stand is because I love God I don’t want to reproach on the name of Jesus. They’re afraid to do it. Apparently they believe their source is that husband and not God.”
The book targets those studying for the ministry, already serving as a pastor or bishop, supporting a spouse in ministry, or in an affair with a minister, offering what Dr. Betty calls a lifeline to help navigate away from Satan’s trap.
“Their spirit has changed but their flesh hasn’t,” Price says of the pastors who have put themselves in such situations. “There is no anointing, They know how to entertain the people and think they are going to get away with it, because they are in a position where they have influence over so many people… but your sins will surely find you out.”
And for Price, there is no better time than now to take a stand against immorality in the pulpit and pews.
“I write this on behalf of the thousands upon thousands of ministers who live right, and for the hopefully many, many young ministers who will read this book and avoid living unrighteous lives,”
Of the repercussions, Price is undaunted.
“I don’t really care. I’m not afraid.”
