Another article I did for our church newsletter:
It's the Lord's Doing....
Psa 118:23 This is the LORD'S doing; it [is] marvellous in our eyes.
As I was in prayer service at GFDM on Tuesday night, I opened my bible and my eyes landed right on this scripture. As I read it, my mind started going back to the many trials/tribulations that I've gone through as a Christian. On the one hand, I think that it's easy for us as Christians to see other people going through things and give them scriptures as a way of making them feel better. But many times, no matter how many scriptures, depending on what you're going through, it's hard to overcome. On the other hand, I noticed even for myself that it's easier to give advice than to actually believe it myself. (Lord, help my unbelief)
As I read it what stood out to me was "our eyes". We know that all things are working together for the good to them that love the lord and are the called according to His purpose. We know that the things that we have been through is what God has allowed. Yet, many times, we find ourselves looking at it through our natural eyes and we begin to lose faith and hope. I remember when I ended up having a miscarriage back in 2001.... It was one of the most difficult times in my life. I am one who tries to maintain a very strong attitude but when I was in the bathroom and I knew it was over, the LAST thing that I would've considered was that this was marvellous. Nor would I see it as the Lord's doing. There was nothing "nice" about it. However, I found that in time because of that situation, I would be able to minister to others in that same situation. I had a greater level of compassion because I knew first hand how it felt. Looking back at it, I wonder how much of a greater impact would I have possibly had if I could've seen it as the Lord's doing? How could I have helped others if I could've seen it as marvellous?
This is not to say that this is an easy thing. However, our prayer should be to let us see things the way God sees it. For when we can see things the way He sees it, no matter what it is, if it's the Lord's doing, truly it will be Marvellous in our eyes. Nothing deep...just wanted to share.
