found this on another website a while back because we had the same question in bible class..
But as for me.. It just don't sit right in my spirit.... My allegiance is to God and to him Only!!!! my opinion.....No we ought not to
I Pledge Allegiance------------------------------- I Promise to be faithful and true (Promise my loyalty) to the flag ---------------------------------------------to the emblem that stands for and represents of the United States -------------------------------all 50 states, each of them individual, and individually represented on the flag of America--------------------------------------------- yet formed into a UNION of one Nation. and to the Republic--------------------------------- And I also pledge my loyalty to the Government that is itself a Republic, a form of government where the PEOPLE are sovereign, for which it stands,---------------------------------- this government also being represented by the Flag to which I promise loyalty. one Nation under God,------------------------------- These 50 individual states are united as a single Republic under the Divine providence of God, "our most powerful resource" (according to the words of President Eisenhower) Indivisible,------------------------------------------------- and can not be separated. (This part of the original version of the pledge was written just 50 years after the beginning of the Civil War and demonstrates the unity sought in the years after that divisive period in our history) with Liberty -----------------------------------------------The people of this Nation being afforded the freedom to pursue "life, liberty, and happiness", and Justice -----------------------------------------------And each person entitled to be treated justly, fairly, and according to proper law and principle, for All. ------------------------------------------------------And these principles afforded to EVERY AMERICAN, regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or any other criteria. Just as the flag represents 50 individual states that can not be divided or separated, this Nation represents millions of people who can not be separated or divided.
*Promise your loyalty to the Flag itself. *Promise your loyalty to your own and the other 49 States. *Promise your loyalty to the Government that unites us all, Recognizing that we are ONE Nation under God, That we can not or should not be divided or alone, And understanding the right to Liberty and Justice belongs to ALL of us.
Can we truly say that EVERYONE is Recognizing that we are ONE Nation under God, or how about is there really justice for all???

Sometimes I think we can get overly semantic with certain things. The fact is that we have several allegiances in life: to God, our family, our church, etc. Even some alma maters of educational institutions use the same sort of language. It doesn't mean that we hold all of these entities on the same level, but each thing in its own place.

For those that don't do the pledge, is it for strictly "Christian" reasons or do racial feelings play a part also?

For those that don't do the pledge, is it for strictly "Christian" reasons or do racial feelings play a part also? I can remember being in school and this one girl didn't do it... she said because she was a JW. I thought it was weird. I personally just didn't feel like having to say it and when I got in 10th grade, I barely ever had to say it anymore because I was in the music room during that time. (LOL). I will say that we must be careful in what we speak out of our mouth. But we can be loyal to the US (at least for now)...however, as time progressively gets worse and we get closer to the end of the world (as we know it) the words will probably change to where we will pledge loyalty to the anti-Christ.

someone stated In the Military it's a crime to burn the american flag, raise it incorrectly, or let it touch the ground... it makes you wonder what so important about this flag..... It make it seems like it's a god....
I know it up to individual to pleadge to the flag.. and it's not a crime if you don't do say it...
But I just don't know!!!
awesome topic!!!

Well civilians can definitely burn the flag, but it is generally considered disrespectful to raise it incorrectly where it's not warranted (it's only supposed to be raised upside down as a SOS sign) or let it touch the ground.

For those that don't do the pledge, is it for strictly "Christian" reasons or do racial feelings play a part also? For me is a personal conviction. Since i was saved I dont say that anymore, however as I said its personal. I dont condemn anyone else for doing it, nor do I tell them they shouldnt.

Hey Guys, I don't have a problem pledging allegiance to the United States because it states to be a nation under God. Not equal to God... but UNDER God...
I am an American Citizen... I don't not forget that or play with it... The rights I have are serious business and because of that I have not problem pledging allegiance...

Im with Kitty...
I cant say that I havent benefited from being an American Citizen. We have benefits here that other countries wished they had. So I dont mind pledging allegiance, but like Nikkol said, times will change and so will expectations concerning loyalty, so it is important that we pay attention to what's coming.....
And we know that the flag is symbolic of the nation, and all the things it stands for (what it stood for originally)
