In scripture, are believers ever explicitly instructed to ask God for forgiveness after they've sinned?

OK, since y'all are shy, I'll answer my own question: no, I do not see that in scripture. I see where forgiveness is described as a present possession of the believer, something we already have in Christ, and not something we have to continually ask for. I also think we misunderstand/confuse terms like "repent," "confess," and "forgiveness." They are related, but not equivalent or interchangeable.

SOooo... are you saying, all we have to do is confess our sins and we are automatically forgiven... What is repent.... is it asking for forgiven or confessing sin?

You tell me. If I'm digging through my Bible, y'all have to dig through y'all's too.

I agree with Krazee, especially on the terms confess, repent and forgiveness. We confuse them but the bible is clear as to what they are and how they apply to the Christian. We create all of the religious rules.

and while this is true I have no issue confessing, repenting and asking for forgiveness when I screw up.
