I am starting to hear more churches address "the Father" by the name Yahweh instead of the more common Jehovah now. How do you all feel about this name? This is like his covenant name that he had given Moses at the burning bush. When he said tell them "I am" sent you...in Hebrew that is supposedly translated to be Yah. Now the exact Hebrew word was "Ehyeh" and "I am that I am" is -Ehyeh asher Ehyeh but translating it to "I will be" the future tense, renders the name "Yahweh"- the self existing one. They say this is the sacred name of the father and that it was found in the form of the tetragrammaton "YHWH"in the hebrew scriptures. They say it was found over 7,000 times in the original hebrew scriptures, so therefore there was a name that he was called by, that contained the letters YHWH. And they did not use vowels when writing, so honestly my opinion is we dont know what vowels to insert to come up with the sacred name, but this name has been in circulation since the 19th century so...But then there are others (smaller percentage) that say his name is Yahuwah-still using the YHWH found in the original scriptures... But what do you think? The short form of the name is found in Psalm 68:4 and other places too. Depending on what version you are using it will either say YAH or JAH, so we know there was a name that was used. But have you ever wondered , when you see in scripture it say, "Bless his name" or Exalt his name? What is his name? Just somethin for discussion......

In all honesty it seems to me far to many christians are adopting stuff trying to be more " authentic ". I have seen many Christians and some so called Christians start practicing Jewish rites and traditions etc etc under the belief that somehow its more correct or purer or that somehow it makes them closer to God.
And the majority of them couldnt be further from the truth.
and the REALITY is that NO MAN comes to the FATHER but by the name of JESUS.
And lastly Yahweh or Jehovah is not his name.. more accurately it is an expression of his being rather than an actual name. It refers to GOD's self existance and self sufficiency.

Gdd just a question...
So what was his covenant name that he gave to Moses, because in the hebrew text im pretty sure it didnt say his name was I AM that I AM? I thought that was the meaning of the name, like we said the self sufficient one.
And just curious....in the OT scriptures when it talks about his name being known in the earth, and the scripture in Prov. where it says what is his name, what is his son's name? Ppl use these scriptures to make a point about the name. When it says bless his holy name.....what name is that.
Now I personally do believe you are right about Yahweh being an expression of his being rather than a name....and to be honest, Yahweh is a guess, no one is sure what the vowels were and where they were placed in YHWH.
And for the record is it safe to say that "God" isnt a name?

In all honesty I dont have all these answers. But I will tell you what I believe.
Firstly I believ a lot of this is religious dogma, and understand what I am saying when I am saying this. MAN likes certain rules and regulation and certain morays in place which tends to make man feel more comfortable with his religiousity. I believe thsts where a lot of this..
This is the right name.. no this is the right name.. you have the wrong name.. etc etc
Now this is what I believe about God saying I AM that I AM. Moses and the Israelites had been in captivity for 400 years to a nation where the gods had names. Ra, Isis, Bast, Isis, Horus, Seth, Anubis. And these gods had physical representation in the form of idols.
Lets look at that verse in the Amplified Bible
Exodus 3
13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them?
14 And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM and WHAT I AM, and I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you!
What is God saying here. He is saying I am the self existant God. I am the one who has no creation, no beginning no end. I am the one who is self contained. He is not created. He is not the creation of ANOTHER god ( which some of the Egyptian gods were). He is limitless. He is not restrained or confined to one area or arena (god of the sun. god of the earth, god of war.)
I AM everything that I need to be and therefore I AM everything that you need me to be. Therefore it is an expression of who HE is.
Thats why we have names like
Jehovah ( The English translation of the Hebrew Yahweh, although we are uncertain of how this name was pronounced original) and from that...
Jehovah Shalom The Lord our peace Jehvovah Jireh The Lord who provides Jevovah Elohim The Lord God Jehovah Rophe The Lord who Heals
and more.. He is the Lord who is everything we need him to be...
Yet he is also
El Shaddai- the Sufficient or Almight God El Elyon- the Most High God Adonai - which means Master
But here is what is the TRUTH..
None of this is RELATIONSHIP. It is the acknowledgement of God and His existance and His Power... and His ability for which he should be appreciated and worshiped...
But in the NEW TESTAMENT... He is revealed as FATHER !!!! Which speaks of RELATIONSHIP which is more important than all the names put together in my opinion...
Also we have to realize that JESUS is the name that is ABOVE every other name and that even includes all the name of GOD..
When I need peace I call on JESUS When I need provision I call on JESUS When I need healing I call on JESUS When I go to the Father I GO in the name of JESUS
We have been GIVEN the name in which resides ALL POWER.. ALL HONOR.. ALL GLORY..
That is the name of JESUS... The Father has GLORIFIED the name of JESUS..
so to a degree for me.. all that Yahweh.. Jevovah yadda yadda doesny matter to me.. The name of JESUS is above every other name....

GDD Explain this.... why do ppl on some blog type out God as "G-D.... as if something wrong with saying the name God.... I am somewhat offended, because God is God and not G-d... He never told us not to use His name... Its religiousity in all honesty.. in Hebrew they left the vowels out and God's name was represented as YHWH.... So now they type God as G-d... Its supposed to reverance for his name but in all honesty if you aint LIVING for him it dont matters.. And I aint typing J-s-s cause thats just stupid.

Mmmm.... Maybe we can still do that?? :-)
I think this does provide an answer.
When using the Hebrew language in Church, or anywhere for that matter, it's not necessarily about being more "authentic" or "purer". IF we are indeed going to use it, then let's do it accurately and with understanding. All scriptures are inspired by God's Holy Spirit, and after all, came to us wirtten in this language, actually were quoted and spoken by Jesus himself in this language, including to the devil who, indeed, understood it!
Should we all know Hebrew? No... Should we all go to the source when it comes to the language and understanding it? Yes...
>>>>>>> The Jewish Nation wished to know the name used to redeem them.
from The Book of Divine Power" by Rabbi Yehuda Leow (Horev Publishers)
Moses said to G-d, Now, I will come to the children of Israel and say to them: "The G-d of your fathers has sent me to you. And they will say to me 'What is His name?' What then should I say to them?" (Ex. 3:13)
Why did Moses anticipate that Israel will ask him the name of G-d? It is quite clear that Israel knew the name of G-d. Indeed, even Abraham, the first Hebrew, already knew this name and explicitly referred to G-d by His name: "Abraham said to the king of Sodom, 'I swear by Havayah, the uppermost G-d…'" (Gen. 14:22). So too Jacob said: "The G-d of my father Abraham, the G-d of my father Isaac, Havayah, Who said to me…". (ibid 32:9)
If this name was so very familiar to their ancestors, it must have also been transmitted to them, and they too must have been familiar with it. If so, why did Moses anticipate that Israel will ask him the name of G-d? They did not understand the meaning of the name…
This question can be answered as follows: Moses did not mean that Israel did not know the name of G-d, for they obviously knew this name. However, though they all knew the name, this could not be considered real knowledge at all, for they did not understand the meaning of the name.[/b] Moses thus anticipated that Israel would ask him the meaning of G-d's name, and this is no simple thing, as can be inferred from a dictum in Tractate Kidushin (71a): "The Sages would transmit the name of G-d to their students once every seven years."
Now, if the dictum "the name of G-d" merely means the superficial name, what point was there in transmitting this once a week? Everybody knows the name of G-d superficially. The dictum must be referring to the deeper meanings of G-d's name. Moses thus anticipated as follows: If I am a Prophet of G-d, it is only right for me to know the deeper meanings of G-d's name. Hence, as a test of my authenticity, Israel will surely ask me to expound this to them…. It is in this sense that Moses' statement - "They will say to me, 'What is His name?'" -should be understood.
However, even if we take this verse literally, and assume that Israel will ask for the name of G-d, not the meaning of the name, this question can still be answered.
We can assume that Moses anticipated that Israel will ask the "Exodus name of G-d". Moses anticipated as follows: Israel will say to me, "Aha, so you claim to be the Savior of Israel, who has come to redeem us. If you want us to believe you, first tell us the name of G-d by which He will bring about the Exodus. Surely, if you are the true Savior, you must know this name."
Eh-yeh means ultimate and total existence… By "name of G-d" Israel meant the "essential order of Exodus". There is a name of G-d related to the order of all G-d's actions, including the order of Exodus. It would surely be appropriate for Moses to know this name of Exodus, if he is the true Savior of Israel.
This interpretation is borne out by the answer that G-d gave to Moses, as it is explained in the first chapter of Tractate Berachot (9b). "Eh-yeh Asher Eh-yeh ", [which literally means "I will be what I will be" and is often translated "What will be, will be"]. The Holy One said to Moses, "Say to Israel, I will be with you [to redeem you] in this subjugation (corresponding to the first), and I will be with you in the subjugation of the future (corresponding to the name 'Asher Eh-yeh'). Said Moses: "Master of the world, it is enough to mention one trouble at a time. Said the Holy One: "You are right. Say to Israel, 'Eh-yeh has sent me to you'."
We thus see that we are not here concerned with finding out the regular name of G-d - everybody knew that name. Rather we are concerned with the special name of Exodus - which he used to redeem Israel out of their subjugation. This special name was not known to them.Except for G-d, no existent being can say with certainty, I will be...
Eh-yeh is the name of Exodus for the following reason: Eh-yeh means ultimate and total existence. Any existent being can say with certainty "I am", and "I was". However, except for G-d, no existent being can say with certainty, "I will be"."
Eh-yeh", meaning "I will be", thus means total existence, which transcends the partial existence of all other beings. Furthermore, since the name Eh-yeh is in the first person ("I will be" rather than "He will be") it means "I will be known to you as the One who exists totally, for I will convey existence to you also." Hence, the name Eh-yeh contains the order of Exodus, that is, "removing you from a nonexistent state, and granting you true and independent existence."
However, in addition to the name Eh-yeh, the name Havayah is also a name of Exodus, as the verse states: "I will be [in Hebrew, "Eh-yeh") what I will be (Asher Eheyeh), so say to the children of Israel, Eh-yeh has sent me to you."
G-d said further to Moses, So say to the children of Israel, Havayah the G-d of your fathers, the G-d of Abraham, the G-d of Isaac and the G-d of Jacob, has sent me to you, this is My name forever, and this is My memorial from generation to generation. (Ex. 3:15)
In the base-ten system usually employed by the Torah, ten represents the end just like one represents the beginning… This is the difference between the name Eh-yeh and the name Havayah. The name Havayah implies present and future being, however, it is in the third person "He will be and is." Furthermore, the name Eh-yeh begins with the letter alef, the first letter of the alef-bet (which has the numerical value of 1), while Havayah begins with the letter yud, the tenth letter (which has the numerical value of 10). Now, in the base-ten system usually employed by the Torah, ten represents the end just like one represents the beginning. Hence, Eh-yeh represents the revealed beginning of Exodus and redemption, while Havayah represents the ultimate and final purpose of the Exodus, which always remains in a hidden state, since it is always in the future.
The name of Havayah is thus called the basic name for it is the order of continued and ultimate existence, while Eh-yeh is the order of initial existence. Since Havayah is a basic name, it is related to Exodus. This name indicates that Havayah is the ultimately basic being, separate and independent of all other reality. This is because in order to exist separately from all reality, G-d must be independent of it. Hence, this name contains the order of independence, which is the order of Exodus. In effect G-d said as follows to Israel: My basic, eternal, and independent name is Havayah, and this name is associated with you through your fathers, the Patriarchs. Hence, it is fitting for you too to be independent and separate, and it is appropriate for Me to redeem you from under the domination of Egypt, as the verse states: "Be holy to Me, for I Havayah am holy. I will thus make you separated for Me, to be mine from amongst the nations." (Lev. 20:26)
This name makes G-d uniquely separate [i.e. unique], and with this name G-d makes Israel uniquely separate, separate from the other nations and not subjugated by them. Hence, the name Eh-yeh contains the initial order of Exodus, while the name Havayah contains the ultimate order of Exodus.
