Benny Hinn Divorce: Wife Suzanne Hinn Files For Divorce From Televangelist www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/18/benny-hinn-divorce-wife-s_n_468296.htmlORANGE, Calif. — The wife of televangelist Benny Hinn has filed for divorce from the high-profile pastor, whose reputation as an advocate of prosperity gospel has attracted millions of followers and criticism from lawmakers and watchdog groups over his lavish lifestyle.
Suzanne Hinn filed the papers in Orange County Superior Court on Feb. 1, citing irreconcilable differences, after more than 30 years of marriage. The papers note the two separated on Jan. 26 and that Hinn has been living in Dana Point, a wealthy coastal community in southern Orange County.
"Pastor Benny Hinn and his immediate family were shocked and saddened to learn of this news without any previous notice," Benny Hinn Ministries said Thursday in a statement. "Although Pastor Hinn has faithfully endeavored to bring healing to their relationship, those efforts failed and were met with the petition for divorce that was filed without notice."
Hinn is one of the best known advocates of the prosperity gospel, which teaches that Christians who are right with God will be rewarded with wealth and health in this lifetime.
His TV broadcasts on the Trinity Broadcast Network, a Pentecostal broadcasting juggernaut, and other TV networks are seen by millions of people around the world nearly every day. He travels the globe in his ministry's plane, named Dove One, holding events he calls "Miracle Crusades" that include spiritual healings.
Hinn has never fully publicly disclosed how he spends the money he raises, but his vast ministry is believed to be a multimillion-dollar operation. There was no mention of finances in the court filing, which listed three recent Southern California addresses for the family.
Over the years, Hinn has been the target of intense criticism from fellow Christians and watchdog groups who call his teachings false and accuse him of raising money only to enrich himself.
He is one of six televangelists under investigation by Sen. Charles Grassley, the Iowa Republican on the Senate Banking Committee, over whether he complied with IRS rules for nonprofits. Hinn has said on his Web site that external auditors ensure his compliance with IRS regulations and that in 2008, 88 percent of the money he collected was spent on ministry.
Benny Hinn Ministries is based in Grapevine, Texas, and operates a church and television studio in Aliso Viejo in California's Orange County, according to its Web site.
Story continues below Sorrell Trope, the attorney with the law firm representing Suzanne Hinn, did not return a call for comment. A woman at his office said the firm does not comment on divorce filings without the client's approval.
J. Lee Grady, contributing editor of Charisma, a news magazine on the Pentecostal community, said Hinn's divorce is the latest in a string of high-profile ministry divorces and moral failures among the Pentecostal leaders, beginning with Ted Haggard's fall from grace in 2006.
Haggard, who is married and has five children, admitted to receiving a massage from a male prostitute and buying drugs from him, but denied allegations he paid the man for sex.
Grady said in an e-mail Thursday that Hinn's followers will want an explanation for the divorce because of the high profile the couple had.
"It will be devastating to the people who have supported Benny Hinn's evangelistic work around the world," Grady said.
"Obviously because their ministry has been very public, they will need to issue a statement to their supporters to explain how this happened," he said.____

I never really heard Benny Hinn reference his wife; I've never even seen her. Another sad day in Christendom.

I never seen her too... May be she like not being seen and don't have to pretend to be happy to the world. Something went wrong in their marriage that caused her to throw in the towel... No previous notice the divorce, shame... I hope they can work something out..

She has appeared with him on his show and in interviews several times in the past. He has also ministered in the pulpit and that has aired. I'm speaking of a few years back when I was a more avid watcher of Christian TV. I can't say how often she's been on lately. She appeared to be a sincere Christian woman but a tad high-strung. She seemed a little nervous being on camera. Given her age and the seeming "out of the blue" filing according to the report, I'm willing to bet that some of this might be hormonal. Hormones can make your emotional response to events excessive. I am too young for menopause but I have experienced hormonal issues and had to repent to my husband once I figured out and the Holy Spirit revealed to me what was going on. Also, it could be that he simply was gone too much. I'm convinced that that is a main factor into the family failures of many of the high profile preachers. They are simply away from home too much. I don't see how many children and spouses can easily deal with all of the absence.

I don't keep up with BH Ministry so I wouldn't know if she ministered or anything. I am beginning to go through menopause thing and you are right, it is am emotional trips, one minute you're hot and the next you're cold... get upset over the littlest things... Thank God i am single I think some Christian men feel you should be happy to be married to a saved man and just obey.... they forget about the emotional needs, partnership, communication etc... Remember Rev. Hinn is from the Middle East (I think)... In his book Holy Spirit, he describe how he was raise... His father was upset with his mother forgiving birth to a girl first and not a boy.... He was the first male child... his mother prayed hard for a boy and dedicated him to God before his birth, like Hanna. After 30 years of marriage.... I hope she is just trying to get his attention, to deal with their issues.

And there are many things that you have to give up for ministry....it's part of the cost. This is one of the reasons why when ppl say they WANT to marry a person in ministry, I'm not sure if most of them REALLY understand the cost. One person that comes to my mind is Billy Graham... I think he was gone more than he was around...but his wife understood his calling and his purpose.... Either way, lets just keep them in prayer.....it's definitely sad to hear but it's even sadder that it had to become "public news to all"....let alone publically have to explain why and what happened.....

In a letter to ministry partners, evangelist Benny Hinn said he is praying God will heal his family. Hinn's wife, Suzanne, filed for divorce from the high-profile minister Feb. 1. The filing says the couple had been separated since Jan. 26, according to the Associated Press. Hinn said his wife had been under great stress, but he and his children "never expected this to happen." "Divorce was the last thing on my mind and theirs," Hinn wrote in the letter posted on his ministry Web site. He said it was a "total shock" when his wife's attorney called Feb. 17 to inform him that she had filed for divorce. "Suzanne never gave the family even a hint that this was on her mind," Hinn wrote, adding that his wife's parents did not know she had filed for divorce until he told them Feb. 17. "Even to this moment, the children and I don't know why she did it. ... I love my wife, and I am praying that the Lord Himself will take care of this and bring healing to my precious family." Hinn said his wife does not have biblical grounds for divorce because neither of them engaged in immorality throughout their 30-year marriage. "We both have kept our covenant with God and stayed pure before Him, and I am praying with all my heart that our precious Lord Jesus will heal my family and protect His work for His glory," Hinn wrote. Hinn said he does not plan to take a break from preaching and leading healing crusades worldwide. "I am going to continue preaching the Gospel and praying for the sick as I have for 36 years," he wrote. "I will not allow anything to slow me down or stop me. My commitment to my precious Jesus is forever, and nothing will ever change that."
So, either BH is lying or SH sounds like she may be having some type of breakdown (he said she's been under "great stress"). I wish her and them all the best and that they can work something out. At her age, she could be having hormonal issues. Also, all (except maybe 1 teenager) of their children are now grown. Some are married. She's dedicated her whole life to wife and motherhood and now she's an emptynester. Also, the high profile ministers and their families have a very small inner circle. She may not have all of the emotional support that she needs to deal with her "great stress". Combine that with the fact that her husband is gone all the time and it's not a good recipe.
He says: Hinn said he does not plan to take a break from preaching and leading healing crusades worldwide.
Perhaps, this is part of the problem. God instituted FAMILY prior to the tabernacle or the church. If she will allow it, perhaps he SHOULD take some time off and get alone with just her for a while.
Just my 2 cents...HAPPY SUNDAY 2 ALL!!!

Agree.... Being commited to Jesus is also being commited to your spouse.. God first, family second and than church and ministries.... May be that is what she want....

I think if ANY wife felt like they could've been alone, I don't think anyone was gone as much as Billy Graham and they stayed together......
I think this is an interesting concept....esp. if we think about the fact that in scripture, we know that Peter was married....yet he left to follow Jesus.... so the question that could be asked is that when you're in ministry, what is the role of the wife? Is it to follow Jesus/husband? And if so, what does that mean.
Now with them, I do know that I would see her at at least some of the crusades; so it's not that she wasn't around him....
Either way, all we can do is pray and for those that are married, pray for your spouse and for marriages. And for those that are single and/or hoping to get married, pray that you'll marry the person that God has for you -- which may or may not always match the person that you think is for you...

May be Billy Graham's wife and Peter's Wife were not suffering from any form of emotional issues, such as lonliness, depression etc. and may be when they are with their wives, they met their needs. Everybody are not the same, ppl have different needs. If she suffering from some form of emotional issues, he should take a break and spend sometime with her and get some form of counselling.... You do whatever it take to save your marriage.... May be she did all she could to get his attention to their problems...

Watching from a distance..I see that many ministers place their family life on hold to pursue the Gospel never taking the time to rest and allow the Lord to minsiter to them. Many marriages are under attack; yet, I also believe many marriages can be saved if many would stop to find what's really going in their homes. I do agree that because God instituted was not in plan for divorce to be an easy out...Christ states that he only allowed it because of man's heart.
