A lot depends on personal preference. Personally, I'd want my church to have a website or at least a FB profile to show that it's connected and is trying to get out there. I would ideally visit for a short period of time to see how it "fits." Listen intently to the preaching/teaching to get a feel for the type of ministry it is and how it suits you. Don't be so quick to join right away.

How about being led by the Holy Spirit and allow God to plant you where he want you to be. He might bring you to a church just starting with a few members or mega church... God know what best for you....

Stillfocused, How about visiting the churches in the area? This is what a friend of mine and I did about 7 years ago. I no longer had a car that would enable me to get to the church I had been attending which was in a different town and she was new to my area. We both decided to pick a church near by that we could attend. Each sunday for about 2 months we went to visit a different place. The major sticking point were about 3 things.... One, was the sermon that was preached bibically based? Two, did the congregation have access to their Pastor? Three, did the people in the congregation seem friendly? It was based on these main points that we choose a place to worship.
Since then I have of course moved to Philly and I have been to visit about 6 different churches. I attended one and join because I was following a close friend however the bottom line was that it was simply the right church for me. But I visited serveral times before I decided that I knew it was the place God wanted me to be...

Hey Nikkol, I ended up joining Julia's former church Ever Abundant Life with Pastor Alexander Thompson located in Darby, Pa by the airport. I visited for a while and then really became clear that it was the place that God wanted me to be... Especially since they have a deliverance ministry and it is an area in which I believe God is calling me to serve. They have classes so I know I am in the right placed to be trained. Oh by the way I said it was Julia's former church because she and her husband recently were called to start their own church. I believe it is called True Love Church ministry... One of these days I still got to come by your church and see you and your husband in action! Oh yes... I do need to get you back your picture! I will do it as soon as I get back from Chicago!
