The Bible's Case For Welfare By Metal Guitarist jimrousch.newsvine.com/_news/2010/09/24/5171493-the-bibles-case-for-welfare So many in the Tea Party movement claim to be undermining progress so that the nation might return to God.
The extremists featured in Colorado Springs, Colorad are a perfect case in point.
Since the Tea Party demonstrates itself as being religious movement under the guise of a purely political one, maybe someone should ask John Tedesco of North Carolina what he meant when he said that Wake County schools should teach children to fish "and not have the government feed them."
Where have we heard this nonsense before, and exactly how well did it work?
We have Sarah Palin who claimed that the war in Iraq was a task from God and let people lay hands on her while the minister supposedly spoke in tongues.
Glenn Beck, who made fun of blind people of people who suffer from blindness back in 2006 when he said he would put a sign on the door to a kitchen which would read in Braille: Caution: 'Pot is hot!'.
I'm sure that someone wrote that one should not put up a stumbling block for the blind some place. Oh, yeah! Here it is! Good old Leviticus 19:14!"14" 'Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the LORD."The funny part, of course is that Glenn Beck claimed in July, 2009, that he was also going blind. Yeah, right. That liar can still see a stripper's 42-DD implants from the nose bleed section of Yankee Stadium.
What is even funnier is that those on the right claim to stand for religious values, but want to weaken protections for Americans with disabilities.
Next, we have the idea that one should pay for college. Okay....I guess....if you think that people should be forced to work full-time when they should be involved in their studies. Would that not count as establishing a stumbling block-especially for the poor?Hence we have Romans 14:13 which reads:
"Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way."Oh, yes, about that verse where welfare gets the Holy Thumbs up.....there are two passages for members of the Tea Party to consider.
First, we shall look at Leviticus 19: 9 and 10, which state:9 "When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God."We then have the immortal words of Christ, Himself, in Matthew 6:25-28. 25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. It was Christ who made all workers equal in Matthew 20:9-15.
Man, were those who worked the longest pissed off in much the same way that supporters of the Tea Party do when it comes to the issue of those whom they refuse to hire, only to complain about "hand-outs". "9"The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. 10So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12'These men who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.'
13"But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'"Ah, those who who were not given the opportunity to earn their bread still recieved the same, did they not?
So much for 2 Thessalonians 3:10! After all, in Matthew 6:26, Christ states that the birds are lazy. We learn two verses later that lillies are also very lazy. Yet, not even the richest man in the history of the ancient world was not as well-dressed as the lilly who tans in the sun all day long.
So, where did New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paldino get off saying that he would put those who recieve Supplementary Security Income, Medicaid, food stamps and TANF either in the military, in work programs or in prison, where they can learn hygiene on August 23, 2010?
According to Paladino's website, here is his plan for those whom corporations refuse to hire.
"Taxpayers can achieve significant cost efficiency by using existing state facilities on the chopping block. Today New York State correctional facilities are under utilized; many have called for closing underused prisons. In fact, New York State can achieve great savings if we redevelop and repurpose half-empty minimum-security correctional facilities.
Ship out the prisoners to consolidated correctional facilities. Tear down the fences, barbed wire and other confinement construction. Upgrade the facility and you have a property that could easily be redeveloped as open and comfortable Dignity Corps campuses in beautiful New York State settings. Underutilized college campuses may be retrofitted, too. Any state facility with surplus capacity can be put to use instead of being an empty monument to government waste."
He calls this the "Dignity" Corps.
Paladino actually wants to criminalize poverty after American corporations have moved their operations overseas.
What does the Bible say about how one should treat the poor?Let us look at Leviticus 25.
“If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countrymen may continue to live among you…” —Leviticus 25:35-36 (NIV)
“If one of your countrymen becomes poor among you and sells himself to you, do not make him work as a slave. He is to be treated as a hired worker or a temporary resident among you; he is to work for you until the Year of Jubilee”. —Leviticus 25:39-40 (NIV)Do you mean to tell me that those who claim to be Tea Party Patriots are either misguided at best, stupid, or hateful at worst?
For those who claim that they want America to return to God, it seems to me that they should follow the program as instructed in God's manual.
Oh, in case you decide to vote for the Tea Party candidates-including Paladino-I suppose warn you that the Bible not only warns those who accuse the poor, but also gives them advice."If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered." -Proverbs 21:13
"He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich--both come to poverty." -Proverbs 22:16
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." -Proverbs 31:8-9And then there's that little warning about what Christ will say to those who ignored the poor at the Last Day.
Have fun in the voting booth this November.

AT, Thanks for posting this... it really blessed me... It is amazing that we have all this motion to vote republican due to abortion and gays but ALWAYS fail to acknowledge what the bible says about the poor or voting in ways to look out for them.
The bottom line is that neither party really represents all of God's wishes but I vote democrat because I don't see anything in bible which states that we should go after gays who ironically have made great strides while republicans were in office. In the past 8 years under the republicans we had 2 states get to the point where Gay marriage is now legal there. In California it was the democrats who voted "NO" to prop 8 this last election.
Now the Tea Party has an even bigger issue on their hands.... What are they going to do about their canadiate who made statements that she used to practice wicca? That she had a actual date on a satanic alter where there was blood???
Exactly how are they going to spin that?!

These scriptures represent he the US in the past ten years. The rich got richer by stepping on the poor and middle class, while the government give them tax-cut. Many of those big corporation who shipped jobs over sea, while enjoying their welfare from the government. Some paid Zero income tax.
Bush's tax-cut cost the US 2.74 trillion dollars in tax revenue for 2000 to 2008 tax year and will increase to 3.43 trillion for 2009 and 2010 tax year. This could have paid for bank bailout, stimulus, extended unemployment and medicare D and still have more than a trillion left over! or it could have paid for the 2 wars!
When President Obama allow Bush's tax cut to expire we will see a big different. The President also closed the loopholes of companies who have oversea banks. We won't see the revenue income till 2012. Closing the loophole on AT&T alone, brought in 1 billion dollars, and that was for health insurance prescription. Just imagine how tax revenue will come in by 2012.
"If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered." -Proverbs 21:13
"He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich--both come to poverty." -Proverbs 22:16
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." -Proverbs 31:8-9
Christine O Donnell, talk too much and too self-righteous. We all dabble into things as a kid or young adult, we did better as we learn the truth. She need to realize, she can not stop the whole country from having sex, and can not make every person in the US live as a Christian. Now, she have to confees, she is a 40+ years old virgin who never had sex and hope no one come forward. People are laughing at her statement about evolution... But it is ok to use Campaign money to paid your rent, light bill, food and other personal needs... She living off of 5000+ a year? can't afford to run for senator.

I must be missing something but I don't see how any of those scriptures support a government based welfare system. If you are speaking about welfare in a sense that the church is to help then I agree but government based one I don't see it. Help me see what I am missing.
As one who takes a very strong stand against abortion and homosexuality/lesbianism I find it odd that when someone takes this stand then they are automatically accused of not helping the poor. Can one not be against abortion and homosexuality/lesbian AND STILL ASSIST with the poor? Who (or what party) I vote for does not indicate whether or not I help the poor.

I must be missing something but I don't see how any of those scriptures support a government based welfare system. If you are speaking about welfare in a sense that the church is to help then I agree but government based one I don't see it. Help me see what I am missing. Yes... He was speaking to a government body.... Solomon the King who the people paid taxes to him.... A Nation should take care of its ppl. Nobody in America should stave, be naked and homeless. There will always be poor ppl. They can't depend on the church to do it. There are some self-fish and too many self-righteous control freak leaders in the church to trust them to do the job. They are the main one too quick to oppress the poor, fatherless, widow and strangers. Sorry... we have too many churches with no compassion, and have a mean spirit, to trust them to help the poor. They receive government grants to help, but they pick and choose who the want to help. Welfare is the government responsibility and the church should support it. The same ppl who cry out against abortion and gays are the same one who want to repeal HCR, want to stop unemployment payments to the unempolyed, who want to stop spending for the middle class and poor, but support Bush's tax cut to the wealthy. If you voting based on abortion and gay agenda, they all, but a few republican and Dem are pro-choice and their are many gay rep. Cheney's daugther is gay and he is for gay.... There were more abortion during Bush's year than Clinton. We had a Rep. President with Rep. House and Senator for 6 years and they did nothing to stop it and slow it down. At least President Obama are looking for alternative to abortion that will encourage women to either keep the baby or adoption. What did the Republican do about abortion? NOTHING.

Let's balance this topic a little more.... 2 Thes 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work , neither should he eat . Proverbs 12:11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding. Proverbs 14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. Proverbs 21:25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour . Proverbs 28:19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. Additionally, if we're going to talk about welfare, there is no reason to bring up homosexuals or abortion.... Two points: 1) I'm not rich but I benefitted from Bush's tax cut. 2) And if someone's child is gay, I don't care who you are....you should still love that child...I'd be more offended if Cheney cut his child off and had nothing to do with her. I was trying to find the story about taxes, etc. And here it is: A Beer Story: Tax Cuts for the WealthyThe wealthy pay most of the taxes, so it should be no surprised that they get a larger percentage of the tax cut total back! It is only fair. —— Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got $10!’
‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’
‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’
‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

So you are calling the poor lazy? We are talking about the poor, not those who refuse to work, when work are available. You believe every poor person is slothful and lazy.
With unemployment at 10%... and there is 50 ppl for every job opening, are you saying that those who can't find work and don't have the money to relocate is lazy? Even those who are Welfare desire to work, but when you are the last to be hired and the first to be fired, why label them as lazy.
There are more white on welfare than black, Hispanic and Asian put together. The black is less likely to be hired and most likely to be fired. That why you will see black working long-term in government jobs or company with a union, where their position are protected. Many jobs go to the illegals... In my apartment building, all the maintenance work are Spanish and could barely speak English. I don't think they are working legal. My former employer hired illegal to lay tile in vacated apartments, when there are many American looking for work. He pay the white and Spanish more than he pay the black.
The average person on welfare, stay on for about 2 years and mostly single woman with small children.
Why not... Isn't this is what the so-called Republican Christian use as a reason to condemn the Democratic? Most of the Repub. that they vote for feel the same way the Dem, concerning abortion and homosexual agenda.... They are now forming a group for gay republicans. They campaign on pro-life to get votes, but they are really pro-choice... They get about abortion, once they are in office.
Yea right.. cause 99.99% of those who making under $250,000 didn't.... I guess you are among the .001%. I think most about the rest of US and the condition of this country, more than my little world. Even if I were among the top 2%, I would be concern about people who lost their jobs, homes and self-worth. It won't just be about me, it about the country as a whole. Bush's tax-cut hurt American and cost us 2.74 Trillion dollars in tax revenue. It increased the national debt and deficit, it didn't accomplish anything. Most of the corporation moved the jobs oversea and put millions of American ppl out of work....
Of course he going to love his child... He need to be investigated for war crime and she need to shut up. Liz talk too much and try tear down everything that the President do... In my opinion, Cheney was really the president and Bush just followed... his administration almost destroyed this country.
Go to Fact Check... Conservative will not give you the fact... and check WH.... Huffington post .... Newsvines is a fare Christian News site.
Really? Exxon paid Zero taxes... Most of the corporations paid little or no taxes. The average wealthy private citizen paid less tax percentage on the income... the Middle Class suffer the most. The poor managed to get earn income and credit for child care. ——
[[/i][/quote]
What you illustrated are not fact... if you only get your information from a conservative site.... I can't trust if, because they have produce so much lies to the point, I don't take them serious.
There taxes going back to what it was before the cut, less tax-cut on the 1st $250,000.00 of their income. Middle Class never had a tax cut before Obama's tax cut... They suffered the most, working their bottom off, just to put food on the table. People who never seen a tax refund before, was able to get a refund for the first time, instead of paying so much out. I know ppl who delayed their tax return, because they didn't have the money to paid or they had to request a payment plan, many are single parents.

Let me try this AGAIN...
I said: "Let's balance this topic a little more...."
All I did was gave scriptures as well INDICATING that there are ppl who are on welfare and it's NOT only those who are trying to find work.
1) Not everyone on Welfare desires to work 2) Some ppl (not all) aren't working not because they can't find work but because they don't want to do "that" job. 3) With EEOC the way it is, being hired/fired can be a lawsuit 4) Never did I indicate that everyone on Welfare is lazy....but we must BALANCE...hence the purpose of my FIRST SENTENCE. Many times when dealing with a subject we go moreso on one side...so, I came bringing the other side of the SAME discussion.
1) Don't believe that a black person is less likely to be hired and most likely to be fired. 2) Being one that has seen how some black ppl abuse city/gov't jobs, the fact that their jobs are "protected"......let's just say that those that I've worked with in Philadelphia would be the ones I'd fire first. Not because of their skin color but because of their decision to not do their job effectively. And I've learned (cuz it works like this no matter where you are) is that ppl that don't really have to "work" for things can be very unappreciative and their workmanship shows this fact. 3) Not sure why we have to bring up those who speak spanish and what their "status" is. But I do know that sometimes black ppl ESPECIALLY, charge the most for things. Question for you, AT: If you could hire someone who was chargin 50% less to do certain work than a black contractor, would you still hire the black contractor?
Where can I find this to research myself?
Why are we talking about gay/abortion when the purpose of the topic is welfare? This is how many times topics get so veered off that if someone reads them down the line it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I don't vote republican based on those agendas....and even if I was the ONLY one (although I'm not), to try to put everyone who is a Republican Christian in the same category is just as bad as me saying every Democratic Christian is pro-abortion..... it's not worth the time......but like I said previously, the PURPOSE of this thread was to discuss welfare.....so let's discuss welfare. :-)
I'll need documentation of some sort to back up what you're saying. I know other ppl who also made under $250K that benefitted from it.
Honestly, the "tax revenue" should be moreso on a percentage system RATHER than however it's set up. But I think that the story that I posted regarding the "Beer story" did a good job of expounding on the tax situation and the types of things that would cause a GREAT influx of ppl moving their companies overseas.
I usually try to keep paragraphs, etc. together as to not have this occur. My point was that I was looking for a SPECIFIC story about taxes and I found it. Not that I need to find just any story regarding taxes.
Ok....I gave a story that indicated how taxes work and the reason you are saying it isn't true is because it came from a conservative site? *confused*... WOW....
