What is a Foursquare Church?
I asked someone recently who is a member of a Foursquare Church, but she didn't know how to explain it. It was alarming to me that as a member she could not explain the mission, doctrine statement, etc.
Please shed some light. Have these churches been around for awhile and I'm just hearing about them?

The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel is a classical Pentecostal denomination just like the Assemblies of God, the Church of God, the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Church of God in Christ, etc. The founder of the denomination was an early woman Pentecostal pioneer, Aimee Semple McPherson. "Foursquare" refers to their emphasis on Jesus' roles as Savior, Healer, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and soon-coming King. Bishop Clarence McClendon used to be part of the organization before his first marriage broke up. Right now, I'd say their most prominent televangelist is Pastor Jack Hayford, pastor of Church on the Way in Van Nuys, CA.
