A preacher's wife needed 2,000 stitches after being slashed and stabbed by an apparently deranged parishioner wielding a box cutter during Sunday services, authorities said yesterday.
Theresa Whitfield, 38, the wife of the Rev. Jonathan Whitfield, was attacked in the basement bathroom of the Trinity Baptist Church in Hackensack during the 11 a.m. service.
Yolanda Cooper grabbed Whitfield by the hair and pulled her to the ground before cutting her face, neck, chest and thigh with the box cutter, Hackensack Police Capt. Thomas Padilla said.
Whitfield was with her infant daughter in the bathroom at the time of the attack.
Cooper, 40, was charged with attempted murder. She is being held on $1.1 million bail.
Parishioners said Theresa Whitfield's white linen dress was covered in blood and they could hear screaming coming from the basement as gospel music filled the sanctuary.
Parishioners used cell phones to call police. One worshiper followed Cooper down the street to point her out to police.
Whitfield was rushed to Hackensack Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery.
"Lord have mercy," said one Trinity church member. "If you are not safe in church, you are not safe anywhere."
Police do not have a motive for the attack.

Oh my God, that is just plain horrible!!! There MUST be some sort of motive.

Krazeeboi..from the way she cut this young woman..it appears that jealousy was the motive. I maybe wrong..but, for anyone to cut someone about the face, neck, and etc areas..for many it would be to make sure that the other person is no longer attractive to the person that they are married to or dating at the present time.

Lord what's goin on? How can these spirits run rampant in the church? And to cause harm at that?
We need to have the true power of God in our churches today (im not saying you all dont go to churches that operate in power) Im saying overall the standard of righteousness must prevail once again in the church well the body of christ as a whole.

How can the power of God prevail when we have leaders that won't submit to each other let alone to the move and will of God......

^That's not true across the board. We really need to keep things in perspective here. I can't even begin to count the many high profile Christian couples that are yet holding it together (even if they do have their private struggles, which is common).

^That's not true across the board. We really need to keep things in perspective here. I can't even begin to count the many high profile Christian couples that are yet holding it together (even if they do have their private struggles, which is common). KB i am not speaking of high profile couples, i know low profile couples and high profile couples and it seems as if the marriages within the churches are just under attack...... In my jurisdiction alone we have had one wife to walk out and leave her husband on last week and another Pastor just passed away at his children's home where we found out he had been living there for the past year and a half.....and both of these men are Administrative Assistants to the Bishop so in perspective.....the body of Christ is suffering in the area of our marriages (not everyone) in my denomination alone there are many couples who are struggling with pure o dee mess..... I don't understand what the Lord is trying to reveal to us during this period but for the past 6 months marriages throughout the nation are falling apart and shocking COGIC.....i don't know about other churches, well obviously in other churches too look at Bynum and White..... Sorry this post may belong in another blog........

Sadly..LANL...this is not a denominational thing. It is a nationwide thing !! The family is under heavy attack. God is speaking loud and clear..we just aren't listening !! For sometime this has been a very strong urgency to for the body of Christ to turn back to the Lord..whether you are responsible or not. There has been a lack of prayer, a lack of faithfulness, and sadly, a lack of love.
This morning as I reflecting on the many events of this week alone. This is work came to me:
Somethings are not my will for your life to occur. Yet, if you continue to walk in that is contrary to my will for your life at that time or any given moment..then I will remove my presence from your life at that time.
Sadly, this all while we pray, shout, dance, run, prophecy, speak in tongues, preach, and all that we do..because the gifts of God are without repentance.

Maybe I'm just not paying attention to it as much, but I'm not really seeing that to a great extent in my neck of the woods. Oh don't get me wrong, I know everyone's marriage isn't perfect, but I'm not seeing a big breakdown of marriages across the board.
Even so, some of this is because marriage is under attack, but a lot of it is because we have not renewed our minds according to the Word of God. It's amazing how worldy our mindsets are as Christians, and I'm not talking about the obvious things, like watching porn, gangsta rap, etc. I'm referring to these worldly mindsets that exalt self above God and others, which just about every "ism" out there does--racism, feminism, homosexuality, etc. All of this is tainting the church of God because despite being saved, we still largely think how the world thinks.

Krazeeboi..you have said alot. And I agree alot of it because of wordly thinking and attitudes. And sadly many of our leaders allowed it to occur to win souls at all cost.

Amen krazee.
You know what I find thats happening at a fast rate across the globe? There is a vast number of couples being forced into marriages, and young couples at that.
By their pastors

Jasmine..that, too !! In most cases because she has gotten pregnant. I know of a case where the young man was approaching 30 yrs...and the young lady under 20 yrs. was encouraged to pursue the man...all for the sake of the ministry !!

sadly..Jasmine this happens for the sake of the ministry..to grow the church and at once have children. And it's funny you brought that up..and if you have noticed alot of them are marrying without the blessing of their parents. Under the guise that it's their relationship and them didn't need their parents "approval"..I am thinking what the parents "blessing" ?!!

Right.
many are fornicating, so marriage has become the solution or shall I say "Temporary Fix".
