Bishop He’s No Flower, II My husband and I became members of The Life Church in early 2003. At that time The Life Church was located on Cartwright Road in Missouri City. It was in a strip center; it was a fairly small congregation – maybe 100 people.
Before becoming members of the Life Church we visited on two previous occasions. On the third visit, we became members. My husband and I used to watch Bishop Flower on TV on Sundays afternoon after we had returned from our regular church service at the old church we were members of before becoming members of the Life Church. We enjoyed the preaching.
After joining the Life Church we faithfully tithed and gave offerings. Also love offerings that goes directly to Bishop Flower (at the time of our joining he was then Bishop-Elect). We did not attend his consecration ceremony. My husband and I grew to love the Bishop and his wife, TD Flower. After belonging to the Life Church for about a year Bishop Flower and his wife called us into his office to ask us if we would head up the Food and Clothes Ministry at the church.
Due to the fact that my husband and I were already providing some of the less fortunate members with food an clothes, with Bishop’s approval first! We gladly accepted the position. My husband and I donated at the minimum of 90% of the food given out to the needy families; we donated at least 70% of the clothes also. During the time of the Women’s conference my husband and I donated 95% of the food! We didn’t mind at all; we were doing God’s work – feed and clothe the needy and less fortunate.
There was a cleaners in the strip center that donated a lot of clothes (over 500 pieces) to the church. Bishop Flower, TD and I loaded up my pick up truck and I took the clothes over to my husband’s and mine rent property to be stored there since the church had no place to store all of those clothes. Bishop has asked us before hand if it would be ok. Even though my husband and I had intentions of renting out the property we gladly agreed that the Lord had need of the rent house.
After all, Steve and I were head of the ministry! Steve and I would take orders from the church members on Sundays and Wednesdays so that we could fill them for the next Sunday and Wednesday. We worked together as a team, me and Steve. We enjoyed the members of the Life Church; we made friends with some good people there. I’m still friends with some of those people. The The Life Church moved to 14083 S. Main in early 2004.
My husband and I fully supported the move (we needed a nicer place to worship). We gave (financial donation) towards the renovating of the new facility. We even helped with the move from the old location; my husband provided the use of his company truck. A couple of months after moving into the new facility Bishop Flower and TD asked us if we would donate our services to renovate one of the rooms so that the church could provide a nursery for the parents at the services (Steve and I used to own a painting business). We happily agreed; we were doing the work of the kingdom.
As a matter of fact, when Steve passed the church donated a plaque in Steve’s memory which is on the wall outside of the nursery. After Steve became disabled and could no longer work (4-1-04) we had no income at all. We talked to Bishop Flower concerning workman’s compensation claims, due to the fact that he used to be in that particular business (I believe he was doing something shady also with the business). Also Bishop’s brother, Jeff, has a business called SWR -- same kind of business-work related injuries.
We never filed with Jeff; my husband suspected something was not right. Steve was, at that time, still able to get around, with the aid of a cane(back injury). One day Bishop Flower asked us to come to his office at the church. He told us the church was in need of funds and could he borrow $5,000.00 from us. My husband and I said yes.
We would be able to loan the $5,000.00; we would take the money from our home equity line of credit. Bishop promised he would be able to put repay the loan in 30 days. He did. At that time he asked us if we would be willing to “float” him $4,000.00 per month and he would repay us in the allotted time of 30 days, we agreed. He needed this sum to operate the church. Steve’s condition worsened to the point that he could not longer attend any services at church. So I stayed at home to take care of him. We didn’t float any more money because the last time Bishop Flower did not pay us back until six weeks after the float. He was supposed to repay the “float” in 30 days.
During this time Steve’s condition was so bad that he was in and out of the emergency room regularly. I had to rush him to the emergency room so many times; I would be there 14 or 16 hours at a time until finally he was admitted to Ben Taub on 8/4/04. That is where it was discovered that Steve had cancer in his spine; which had spreaded to his liver and lung. We were totally shocked; the company doctors had never mentioned any cancer after being under their care since 10/2003. We had a battle for time on our hands. After chemotherapy treatments didn’t work after being hospitalized for 30 days, Steve was sent home. In two weeks the cancer spread to his brain. Houston Hospice made arrangements for Steve to come home on a Wednesday; he passed Friday.
Bishop Flower made all of the arrangements for the services; all I had to do was pay Grimes Funeral Home and Houston Memorial Gardens. I took the money from an I.R.A. that Steve received from the two 401k after he was terminated from his job. Yes, United Rentals terminated Steve while off on disability! I buried Steve on 10/5/2004. The next day while I was at GGG Funeral Home (I needed a copy of the death certificate) Bishop Flower called me and asked me to meet him at his school, ZZZ Learning Academy, located at XXXX Cullen (10/6/04).
He asked me if he could borrow $8,000.00; the school was in bad shape; someone was stealing money and he could not make his payroll. I told him that I would have to go into the line of credit again like the last time I loaned him money. He promised that he would put the money back into the line of credit. He didn’t keep his word. The day before Steve passed I met Bishop Flower and his brother Jeff at a bank on WWW State Bank. I had called Steve’s sister, Sandra, to come to the house to stay with Steve; he could not get out of bed. While at the bank Bishop called on the phone and the lady on the phone gave me a number for ADV PPP & Associates ( I didn’t know the name of the company until then). She identified herself as an employee of the I. R. S. I identified myself as Orlean Pierce; I gave her my SS#. The lady gave me EIN #.
I don’t know what that number represents. Then Bishop and I opened a checking account at WWW State Bank for ADV PPP and Associates, L.L.C. I signed for the account; my name is the only one on the account ; Bishop Flower said his name could not be one the account; I didn’t know what he meant by that. In June 2004 Bishop Flower called me to the church for a meeting. Steve stayed at home. When I arrived he and TD were in her office. They wanted me to sign for him and his wife a house because he had already signed for his brother Jeff a house and Jeff was about to lose his house; Jeff was getting a divorce.
Bishop Flower’s house was in someone else’s name (I don’t know who). Financially, it was costing Bishop so much money he could not keep payments on Jeff’s house and his own. The person who had signed for Bishop’s house did not want to be responsible for the note any longer. So we went to Equileen, on Westheimer for me to sign papers to put Bishop’s house in my name; since I had a 790 credit score. But the deal fell through (That’s what he told me). After leaving this meeting Bishop and TD asked me if I would use my credit to open an American Express account for the church. The church needed a way to pay the bills monthly, rather than having to pay cash up front all the time. I agreed.
Shortly after that meeting Bishop Flower asked me and Steve if we would open an American Express Blue Small Business account for the church. We agreed. Steve and I soon learned that they do not pay their bills on time. The creditors called us all the time, wanting to know when the account was going to be paid. On 12/14/2004 Bishop Flower called me to his office at ZZZ Learning Academy at 6701 Cullen and told me he needed to borrow $4200.00. He was in the process of moving and he needed it for “moving expenses”. He promised that he would put the full amount back into the line of credit at the end of January. He didn’t keep his word. At the end of October 2005 I went to work for Bishop Flower; he paid me $1500.00 per month. I was employed by his company, ADV PPP and Associated, LLC. He would have me to sign several blank checks, sometimes as many as seven or eight at a time. I do know that he paid some of the members of the church money, he paid bills for the church, he paid his vehicles notes with this account.
He received money from a place in Fort Worth to pay for the lease at ZZZ Academy; I think it was Ambassadors for Christ. Then he would meet me at the bank (WWW) and he would wire money to a collection agency for back rent. The rent was always behind for ZZZ Academy. Since my name was the only one on the bank account I needed to be there for him to wire the money. When the payments came in monthly for the lease he would then get cashier’s checks to give to Jeff Flower. I don’t know who the checks were made out to. He would also get cahier’s checks for himself; I don’t know who they were made out to either. Sometimes after services at church Bishop would call me into his office and have me sign six or seven blank checks. Sometimes he would have me to meet him at ZZZ Learning Academy to sign blank checks. Bishop Flower purchased two temporary buildings for ZZZ Learning Academy on the American Express Gold card (Orlean Pierce- The Life Church account) then charged the school (ZZZ Learning Academy) with the rent of the building to be paid to his own company, ADV PPP & Associates. There were two board meetings where Bishop Flower introduced me as the owner of the lease for ADV PPP, and Associates.
The purpose of the meeting was to get the board’s approval to pay the rent for the two buildings. The board did approve. He laughed and said he always gets his way! Then, out of the blue, Bishop called me and told me that he was going to buy TD a new car. He said he wanted to put all three of out names on the bill of sale. I agreed. He did not tell me what kind of car it was. One Saturday after class (I was back in school then) he called and wanted me to meet him ASAP! He wanted me to meet him at a dealership on 45. He and his daughter met me at the McDonald’s on 45 and I followed them to the Champion dealership. He had already picked out the car he wanted to buy; it was a 300- that new Chrysler for TD. He had already talked to the salesman. At that point he told me that it was to be a surprise for TD. N
ow I’m the one who is surprised! He told me before that he wanted all three of our names of the sale. When it came time for the financing Bishop Flower was attempting to get it financed through the Life Church but that didn’t work. So I ended up with just my name on the contract! The finance person said there was a glitch in the 5013c and taxes codes that prohibited the Life Church from getting the car in it’s name. At that time my credit score has fallen to 713; it was no longer 790 due to the fact that Bishop Flower had made so many inquiries. In April Bishop Flower called me at the church (I also volunteered at the church) and told me to go to my back and get $5, 00.00 from my home equity line of credit. The next morning he told me to get a cashier’s check for the $5,000.00 and make it out to The Platinum Group from Richard and TD Flower. He had mentioned to me earlier in the month that he had an opportunity to invest in a hair care product business. I brought the check to the church where he and two other men were in a meeting. He introduced me to the two men and then he introduced me to Jeff, as if I didn’t already know Jeff, his brother. (Bishop Flower knew exactly how much funds were available in the home equity line of credit because he said “take out the $5,000 and leave the $500.00 in the account. At that time I only had available $5500.00.
He promised that he would put the money back into the account. He didn’t keep his word. On 4/19/05 I met Bishop Flower on Hwy. 59. He had me to sign for financing on a Hummer 2005, black. Later on I discovered that somehow he had the financing changed into the ADV PPP & Associates business name. He used the American Express account to pay the $2,000.00 down payment on the Hummer. Since the American Express account is in my name I returned to David Taylor, the dealership where the Hummer was purchased, to present the finance man the card to pay the $2,000.00. Then I signed the contract (this transaction occurred on the same day). In early May I had spoken to Bishop Flower concerning my financial situation. I was having difficulty meeting my monthly obligations. I had gone through my stash, extra money. He assured me that he would “take care of me”. I waited. Nothing, So I spoke with Bishop Flower again concerning my financial situation;, I was having difficulty meeting my monthly obligations. He said he would take care of me. I waited. Nothing.
By now I realize that he does not intend to repay the loan and it did not matter to him if I could not meet my monthly obligations. I was in a terrible situation. I was broke! And he owed me a lot of money. On 6/19/2005 I attended my last service at the Life Church. That evening I cancelled both American Express accounts (platinum and blue). I had to wait until the next day to cancel the Advanta credit card; they were not open on Sundays. The next morning I went to WWW State Bank and closed out the account for ADV PPP and Associates, LLC. I took the cashier’s check for the balance in the account and the keys to the church located at ##### So. Main and put the envelope in the mailbox at the church. I called Bishop and told him where to find the envelope. On 6/21/2005 I met with Bishop Flower at his office at #### San Felipe (Executive Suites). He had already filled out the form reflecting Don Franklin as the new registered agent (he said he pulled this form from the internet). I signed the form and requested a copy for myself. At this point I was under the impression that I disagreeociation with ADV PPP was over but I later learned from the Office of the Secretary of State that I am still listed as the only member of ADV PPP and Associates; and always have been the only member of the company.
I have requested the return of the three charge cards from Bishop Flower and TD and to this day I have not received them. I have requested repayment of the personal loan and I have not received any of the funds. I want them to return the vehicles to me so that I may turn the vehicles over to the respective dealerships. They have used me long enough. Webster defines to deceive as to swindle. They both are nothing but two bit con artists. TD Flower is his partner in crime. She is well aware of his business practices! My trust has been totally broken where these two people are concerned! After all they have no legal obligations to these debts; their names are no where on the dotted lines and they know it. That is why they have chosen to walk away from it! But through it all I will trust in the God of my salvation! Rom. 8:28—and we know ALL things work together for good to them that love God and who are called according to his purpose. I want to make it clear that I am not angry with Bishop and TD Flower. I forgive them both for the betrayal. However, I am saddened by the obvious manipulation of the trust that I placed in them. They both took ADV of me at a time when I was most vunerable. It’s not easy to live without my mate; someone whom I have loved for 35 years! I mourn his death everyday. The emptiness… I shared my most deepest feelings of loss with both Bishop and TD Flower after Steve passed. I even shared by thoughts of suicide with Bishop Flower. The pain… I can identify with those children who were molested by their priests. The betrayal…
