This was a clear case of lack of wisdom. Actually this really seems foolish. My question was did she pray about giving this money and doing these things. What was the motive when she did them? Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Some things take common sense, at the end of the day where she was sowing was it good ground. Seems like she had a lot of stop signs and flashing lights going off and she ignored them .

AT: I'm really appreciating the wisdom and balance of your posts on this thread. Unless there are some mental competency issues here, I agree that Sister let herself get played and whatever the reason was for that is truly something she needs to address. That part was heartbreaking to me. Of course none of that would in any way excuse the alleged pastor/con man. But as much as I think he should be legally prosecuted, my question would be whether any of what he did is actually illegal. did any of you all read the link about the Pastor's wife BDay Party? LOL! Girl, you know I did! ;D It was a little hard to read it around the words " SOLD OUT" in those BIG BOLD RED LETTERS... That's the way Sister Bridget rolls... bet she got everything on that list too. I think that kind of stuff usually breeds division and, imo understandably, brings out "haters" as well. But I certainly didn't agree with the poster that it is any way an example of an "abusive" pastor because as Misskay said: ... it appeared to be an open invitation.... (Now I could suggest some other possible descriptions for pastors who promote this kind of excess but I won't. )

In regards to the birthday invitation!
I say this thats on the people if they are foolish enough to spend that kind of money go for it. I personally wouldn't, unless I was buying it for my self or my mother or sisters. I find it actually hilarious, cuz you know a whole lot of people bought gifts that were on that list. And I'm not talking about the people that can afford it but the ones that want to keep up with the Jones and the Smiths will be the ones that don the party with these lavious gifts. And will be calling next week asking for a loan to pay the electric bill. Sad

I am with Keita on this one. Yes the pastor took advantage but he is not at fault totally. Lack of wisdom and discernment.

First time the dog bites you, shame on the dog. The second time the dog bites you, shame on you. Say it! I love "proverbs" like that. Grace (and my grandmother had a version of that one you shared: Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. They're tight but they're right! LOL! Still, we all know there are more than a few people, including believers, who are lacking what so many see and refer to as "common sense", often because they simply never learned any. And we know that believers can lack what we're calling "discernment" and "wisdom", often for much the same reason. Even some who have one or both of those gifts have been known to, at least temporarily and for a variety of "whys", suspend all semblance of them when it comes to "church matters". There are those, both men and women who are "loving" and "serving" church "leaders" out of issues and agendas they may or may not even know they have. And there are those whose purest intention is to support, serve, and for many, obey their church leaders as an expression of their love of Christ. We don't really know which, if any, of those things apply to this woman. But whatever her case, the result is that she was a victim. That means there is a predator and perpetrator afoot. What is to be done about that? Don't want to lose sight of the point...
