Greetings everyone!
I have a question:
This year Christmas falls on a Sunday and there are several churches throughout the country who have chosen not to have services on Christmas Day or change the regular scheduled service because of the Holiday.
What are your thoughts regarding Sunday Morning worship on Christmas Day?

I believe if that's our main day of corporate worship then things should carry on as usual as far as having church service. Now as far as the order of service, that's up to the individuals, as long as God is getting the glory then they can do whatever they planned to do. I dont see anything wrong with Christmas plays and Christmas programs, I think its good to commerate the birth of Christ, because we are showing our thanks and gratitude that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son! Amen Joy to the World! We can have JOY because of his birth and have JOY because of his coming!!!

If I were a pastor, I'd simply do a one-hour Sunday morning service, something like 10am - 11am (Praise & Worship, offering, sermon).

If I were a pastor, I'd simply do a one-hour Sunday morning service, something like 10am - 11am (Praise & Worship, offering, sermon). We are having our services on Saturday. Same times as Sundays (9 & noon) but just a different day. And it will be similar to what Krazee said above.

There use to be a time when no matter what day Christmas fell on, they still had a church service. Additionally, that is one of the three holidays that people would normally come to church (3rd to Easter and Mother's Day).
I heard that many are saying they are cancelling so that people can spend time with their family. Can they not do that in the house of God? What about souls that may have come on Sunday? I think that it gives people the impression that coming to the house of God isn't as important as many have said. What makes a person say that they should spend time with family on Christmas but yet they should go to church any other Sunday...... maybe every Sunday could be family day at home..........
Jasmine..... not a bad idea (the shirts) but just give me one of those white t shirts and some paint, I can make my own........lol I'll sell mine for only $20...... half the price, can't beat that.....lol
I do know that we'll have a normal service time and a normal service: 12 - whenever God says so. :-)
Some churches in the area have afternoon services instead of morning and so one church may be coming to fellowship with us on that morning.

We are averaging about 20 visitors every sunday. I can only imagine what Christmas Sunday would be like. There is noway, our pastor would not have service. Im sure he would like to have a day off was well, to spend with his family.

Our church subleases space from another church and we don't have services till Sunday evenings. A 5pm service on Sunday didn't seem feasible.
So we'll have service on Saturday.

I asked this question because this was a big deal in church two Sundays ago..
I couldn't believe that people actually wanted the Sunday off, but if Christmas was on any other day we would still have Christmas morning service.
After asking around there are several churches who are not worshiping on Sunday because it is Christmas...... what else better to do than go to church on the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior...
But like my mom said I am just to "churchy" whatever that means LOL

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
I don't see the sin (not saying it is a sin) if one chooses to spend time with family rather than attend a church service on Christmas. As long as God is glorified in our everyday life and foremost honored on the holiday, whether one attends a service or choose to commemorate our Lord's birth at home, then it's really a matter of preference. I feel it's good if services go on as usual on Christmas Sunday (as I assure a majority will), however, if service times are altered or change to another day for the sake of spending time with family, then that's okay also. We must remember that we ARE the Church in which the Holy Spirit abides and wherever his abode is, "church" is going on as usual. Just a perspective.

I agree with Guest... We have a very small congregation and many will be out of town, so we going to worship with another church for Christmas and New Year Eve...
For all those serious about going to church every Sunday,... 8-)What you are doing Sunday Morning, NEW YEAR DAY!!! Most of us are out in the Spirit after 1am New Year Day and don't get home till 3am . Are you planning to have regular service New Year Day?

It is a sad thing when people say that they would rather spend time w/ family than go to the house of God. Since when can we no longer spend time with family in church? There are smaller congregations that are fellowshipping with others. I know for Watch Night, we are trying to have a few churches all come together and fellowship together..... but to just not have service because it's a holiday? Wow......... I'm still shocked. Why wouldn't a church not have morning service on New Years. Going to church shouldn't be contingent upon whether or not it falls on a holiday. Before long, people will say that they can't go to church on Mother's Day either because they want to spend time with family..... Resurrection Sunday will be the same way. If we (general) believe that going to the house of God is important, to say it's not important on the day that we celebrate his birth seems rather odd...........

What I dont get is how u gonna not show up to worship God on Christmans when Christmas is ALL about HIM !!!!!! I dunnno It is all about HIM and yet we want to lay aside the day of worship because the day we are suppose to Celebrate his birthday is Sunday..... Honestly yall I was baffled; after our worship service had ended the Pastor asked how many would like to have Early service (9:30AM) or regular (11:00AM) people just start yelling out " There shouldn't be ANY Service because it is Christmas day". So we took a vote and most folks really didn't want to come at all. I almost fell out of my seat..... We are still having Watch Service {which is not over until 3AM} and this year we are serving breakfast to everyone and not having Sunday Service........ We are also joining with another church...... I am expecting a glorious time....
