How do the spirit, the Holy Spirit and the conscience all relate? How do they function differently for the saved vs. the unsaved? What is/are their role(s) in the salvation equation?

Let's start out with how God communicates with us. Does He speak to the conscience, the spirit or the Holy Spirit?

I thought that Christ/God is the Holy Spirit.

He is. Do you think there isn't a distinction between God the Father and God the Holy Spirit that resides in believers?

Yes there is. And then you have scriptures that say that the Holy Spirit will only speak that which He hears, the Spirit making intercession (to Whom?), etc.

I see the original question was left unanswered.
I will say that based on Proverbs 20:27, it appears as though the spirit of man is the conscience, or the conscience is a component of the spirit of man. The scripture states:
"The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the innermost parts of his being."
All men have conscience.
The Holy Spirit, however, is the life force of God, if you will. Because redeemed man has more than a conscience--he is also regenerated spirit--he is enabled to obey the law of God written on his heart through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Since all men have conscience, it seems that tucked away in there is some sort of standard of morality and/or goodness and that when it is violated, that conscience informs by giving feelings of guilt, shame, etc. Do we come pre-loaded - for a lack of a better term - with some level of God's standard already in us?

Yes, I believe it is instinctual, for lack of a better term. Paul seems to allude to this in Romans 1. All men are without excuse, even those who were without the Law, for they were condemned by their conscience.
