Here’s a story…
A Black woman grows up in the church and even begins her five decade singing career there. Throughout the years she was backslidden, but today, she fully accepts Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She even put out a gospel CD last year in testiment to her love of Christ. Sounds like a good story, but the sad thing is, this woman found her answer in the LDS, not in the true church.
That woman is Gladys Knight.
What did the Mormon church have to offer that we, The Church, couldn’t/didn’t or fail to? Was The Church asleep on this? Were we not there when she cried out? Did we not minister to her when she needed it? Does this say anything about us a Body when we let low hanging fruit like her slip into a false church? Should this even be an indictment of how well we’re ministering to the masses?
What’s so remarkable is that the Mormon church has a checkered past in terms of being racist in its teachings.
We're losing thousands a day to false religions. How can we change this?

YBrown excellent topic,
I don't know of you read the 50 Cent thread or not but as I posted in that thread to many times we (the church) shun entertainers ONLY because of the image that is portrayed to the public.
I am certain that Gladys Knight was shunned by the older saints as we (the church) today are shunning 50 cents and all these other rappers / entertainers.
Entertainers are paid employees of their profession just like a Secretary, yes entertainers influence people but so does a secretary.
But not only are entertainers shunned the "black church" also shuns executive "top notch" professionals, what church does Richard Parson attend, whose church does Kenneth Chenault attend; whose church does Stan Oneal attend; what church does John W. Rogers attend?
I think it is the way that the church perceives success, in most recent history (past 10 years) the church has started to embrace entertainers and high profile people.
I will be back

Drop the false teaching that woman can't preach, pant and head covering issues, baptizing in Jesus Name only issue, baptize in water to be saved issue and all the other false and unnecessary man doctrines and begin to walk in the Love that Jesus told us to walk in.

In other words, if everyone believed as ATT does, the world would be a much better place.
Give me a break.

Mt 7:14 - Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
We were born in sin and were shapened in iniquity. Therefore, we as people will tend to strive towards sin. (which is why we need Jesus) What we are to do is continue to plant and water; but it is only God that will give the increase
What does the Mormon church or any other false religion have to offer? The opportunity to stay decieved and live in sin. But those who are decieved know not that they are deceived.

I agree with Nikkol. The only thing that is offered deception. People would rather be decieved than know the truth. Its sad but true. As far as has the church failed? Well I can't say that it has. We don't know how the saints reached out to her. The interesting thing is she was raised in the church so this is a case of a individual that knew the truth but made a choice to choose the morman church. Many times people choose these false teaching and religions, because it gives the person the ability to continue live according to the way they want.

Look at the post about women preachers.... The Church can be cold.... and care most about their denominational belief than about souls. ATT

How about this... The Church need's to be the Church!! Stop all the perversion the divisions, the backbiting, the child molestations, the Pastor robbing, the carnal judging and get back to loving and living the way God has planned??? The LDS sticks to one believe and doesnt change from it. The Protestant Church Church is so divided by doctrine and non biblical things its sad! Im not here to say she wants to sin so she picked LDS, after all who accepts God with the intent to continually sin daily?
Maybe if the Church would prepare its message and its people the way other faith's do we wouldnt have so a GREAT falling away...

Here is my response. Rant On: First of all I have grown sick and tired of folks saying, the church aint this and the church aint that the church needs to do this and the church needs to do that. First things first. Half of what christiandom calls the church IS NOT the church. We need to understand that right off the bat. Secondly I have grown tired of folks pointing their finger and saying they need to stop doing this and stop doing that when the reality is that we OURSELVES are FULL of compromise, deceit, deception, lying, and sometimes just flat out SIN. WE are the church. ALL of us. If the " chucrh " has a problem its because folks are in the church and folks are messed up. Thirdly we need to stop pointing folks to " the church " and point them to JESUS. Stop bringing folks to our organization and denomination and our conferences and our events and bring them to the foot of the cross so they can meet JESUS. We must BE the representatives of JESUS CHRIST on a daily basis. Fourthly ( is that a word ) One of the reasons folks have no faith in " the church " is because they see people like US on a daily basis. We smile and hug and act all nice and love u with the Love of the Lord on Sunday and act like a fool and cuss folks out and be ready to cut someone on Moday. Why should I go to your church when obviously it aint doing anything for you.. because I see YOU more than I will ever see your pastor or your leaders or hear your choir sing. Fifthly.. while yes it is true we can be better representatives of Jesus Christ and HIS church we must also understand that folks must work out their OWN salvation with fear and trembling. No we should not be a stumbling block BUT lets be honest here and stop making excuses. There are people that have SEEN Godly examples and seen folk walk out Godly lives before them yet they REJECT the Gospel because plain and simple the GOSPEL requires two things.. TRUE SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT and CHANGE... and what other religions offer is a shadowy ritual of one or the other.. Religion might demand an external change. It will give u some rules to follow but does not demand any TRUE SPIRITUAL sacrifice. So personally I say lets stop making excuses for artists and entertainers and everyone else. They have to make a CHOICE and GOD is well able even through the mess we see today to offer them the TRUTH and its rejected on a daily basis. I myself was in a raggedly messed up jacked up church and the church I grew up in had some of the most hard hearted evil hypocritcal folks I have ever seen... But when I came to know JESUS.. not the church ....JESUS... NOTHING any folks or any church would do or say to me ( and I have had some stuff done and said ) would shake me from JESUS.. RANT OFF
