DES MOINES, Iowa -- Wendy Dershem may think twice before leaving that egg roll on her plate at her next Chinese buffet.
The Des Moines woman, her boyfriend and her two children were kicked out of a restaurant last week after management at Dragon House accused her of leaving too much food on her plate.
Dershem said she paid for her buffet on Saturday but was abruptly told to leave after eating one plate of food.
Employees said they had been watching her family on previous trips to the restaurant and were fed up with her habits. They said she would pile her plate with food, take one bite and throw it away.
"They just take one bite and throw it away," said cashier Lin Huyen. "They take four egg rolls and crab ragoon, take one bite of egg roll and throw the whole plate. That is wasting food."
Dershem said she was shocked by the scolding and complained to management when she paid her check.
Dragon House manager Kent Cao said his restaurant does not offer an all-you-can waste buffet. He said Dershem's family took food, didn't finish it and then piled on the same food again, he said. He says he won't allow her back in the restaurant unless she changes her ways.

The buffets here have that disclaimer posted very visibly. No wasting food! Never heard of that rule being enforced. Well this is Texas ;D

I can't say that I disagree with the restaurant staff because I have seen myself how some ppl get food and waste it, well of course nothing is ever said, but in this case, they were watching them at other times to see how they act in the restaurant as far as getting their food. It is possible that they were wasting food. Now if she has been to the restaurant before, her and her family or whatever, then I would think they pretty much knew what was on the menu. Now for you to get an egg roll and bite it one time and throw it on your plate as trash then yes....thats wasting food for sure!! And some kids play over chinese food anyway...lol I know mine do..and I have to select certain things for them to eat so that I won't waste food. It says all you can eat...now they are expecting you to actually get all you can EAT up and not leave SO much or food thats barely touched and bitten into making up a whole plate. Then you really couldnt eat it or you just didnt. Too much of that can be wasting food. So like I said I can't say that they were wrong. I would say maybe they could have handled it in a different way.
