You know what? All of what has been said is great, and I do hear a lot of ppl from time to time preach and teach , respect your leaders and show them love, dont buck against them, they are only human and they have faults,If you point out their faults you have 4 fingers coming back at you to point out yours........and so much more.
God does command us to love our brother, and pray for them. Saints.....we are to understand that our leaders are human as well and have many faults as we all do. To me the problem isnt in the faults, or isnt in them recognizing that they can or have mistakes (in such cases) it has always been in the way they were handled. I understand you have faults and frailties but do you understand that even in your faults and bad habits as a leader you are still held accountable, and you are still impacting ppl's lives?
My husband and I are in leadership, he is an elder and I am a minister of music/teacher and we have to understand that whatever we say or do ppl are watching/listening . We must hold our positions highly (not in pride) but in a sense of great responsibility. You know the saying to much is GIVEN ...MUCH is REQUIRED! We just can't do and say what we want and stamp the name of Jesus on it because we are chosen to do his work.
What leadership needs to understand and practice is Accountability. Yes we know that God is in control and he is the righteous judge, but he has given us his word to have something to compare things to. His standard. If it doesnt fit his standard then I dont have to follow it, the same goes for someone else for that matter when it comes to me and my husband , if I'm not operating in the authority of Christ through his word then I'm not authorized. A person's title does not authorize them. That's just like Balaam..he said whom God has blessed, he couldnt' curse no matter what kind of gift he operated in or what position he held.
If you interview ppl even who have been hurt by leaders , majority of them will tell you that they love their leaders and would do anything for them, but they were hurt probably because of the stance their leaders took concerning their wrongdoing, or there were never apologies given,or they were abused beyond reasoning. Humility is KEY in leadership. And someone mentioned servitude. The greatest among you Jesus said is a servant. When leaders are serving faithfully and properly according to the word that has authorized them then i'm sure they wont have any problems (major) out of the ppl, the ppl will serve and operate in the ministry like its intended, and love, honor and respect the leaders and esteem them highly. But spiritual abuse will cause some to be bitter and hard. Im not saying this is right, but its a reaction to what has taken place, especially if the person doesnt ask God to direct them and comfort them in the word on how to overcome the hurt.
When leaders dont represent well, it reflects on the kingdom believe it or not, and God is NOT pleased. And remember where the word does not authorize a leader to speak or operate , then any other operations are according to one's own accord, and as saints we are not required to follow after man. Paul said follow me as I follow Christ, not just meaning if Paul would have stop living for the Lord then dont follow him, no if Paul was operating in any other authority other than God's then the ppl were not to follow , because the destination would be unknown
Pro 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
When Leaders do their own thing in leading God's ppl or instructing God's ppl then it is evil, because our righteousness is as filthy rags, our nature is evil, that's why when we do not follow the word of the Lord we get in trouble.
We as leaders should show love and compassion, and teach what thus saith the Lord and lead with wisdom and understanding of the Spirit, and we won't go wrong off the path.
