MADRID, Spain - Spain's top fashion show has turned away a slew of models on grounds they are too skinny — an unprecedented swipe at body images blamed for encouraging eating disorders among young people.
The association said Friday it wanted models at the show running from Sept. 18-22 to project "an image of beauty and health" and shun a gaunt, emaciated look.
This time the Madrid regional government decided to intervene and pressure organizers to hire fuller-figured women as role models for young girls obsessed with being thin and prone to starving themselves into sickness, said Concha Guerra, deputy finance minister of the regional administration.
Fashion shows, Guerra said, "are mirrors for many young women."
Del Pozo said this was the first time skinny models have been snubbed at a major international fashion show.
Brown of the Elite agency said fashion shows reflect the tastes of clothing designers, who for now prefer the Kate Moss look as opposed to the curvier dimensions of models such as Cindy Crawford in years past.
"They don't want voluptuous girls any more," he said. "It would be nice if fashion got back to that."
And, as I totally agree with what the organisers did and hope that more will follow, I thought about all the vital issues encompassed by real femininity, femininity according to God, and how for so long it has been forced into taking the backseat.
And, I have a lot of questions about it, because God created Woman. From the beginning, starting with Eve, we have had exemples of women of great beauty, in the Bible first, through the arts, etc...
The biblical models of these women of great beauty had one thing in common: beauty inside and out...
These comments say most of it in a nutshell:...
"The attributes that Eve shares with women of all time, she also imparts as gifts for fulfilling things incomplete.
God's very creation of her is a response to the fact that Adam - already a spiritually exquisite being - will not be spiritually complete without Eve.
God looks at Adam's magnificence and says, "It is not good that man be alone." In this seemingly perfect picture, God still considers Adam incomplete - until he is joined by Eve.
Thus, Eve brings to woman an ability to guide others in a fundamental way. This capability is alluded to in one of the initial moments of Eve's creation, when God closes the incision from which He has extracted Adam's rib:
"So God cast a deep sleep upon the man and he slept; and He took one of his sides and He filled in flesh in its place" (Genesis 2:21).
"He filled in flesh," means that God heals all flesh under a woman's influence.
A woman's impact can be so all encompassing and so powerful, that it seals in an inspiring fashion those with whom it comes into contact.
Given its inherent subtlety, femininity may not leave an obvious imprint. Nonetheless, its effect is unmistakably deep."
...
"On the other hand, one of the most efficient ways to sell a product to women is to include a role model.
The role model woman will differ according to the product. A computer ad in Ms. Magazine, for instance, will feature an important looking executive.
The feminine message is, "I want to be her," whereas the masculine car ad would provoke a man to feel, "I want to have her" - two completely different approaches, which reflect the different fundamental natures of men and women."
Of course, we are aware of the fact that God's intent for many things in His creation has been twisted and perverted. But, when it comes to Woman, the matter of purpose has been mostly focused on image, the outside.
I have experienced it myself, I have seen it in my own daughter, my friends.
Most people are not aware of the painful process that women, young and not so young, go through to "fit" on all levels. It's true for professional women, qualifications and skills are not enough anymore, it has to be the "whole package" including looks. And it goes for the ones who choose to stay at home also, who somehow feel compelled to go through the years, like everyone else, only keeping "that look" that he fell in love with.
It leads to very destructive behaviours, like anorexia, simply put: starvation.... And, it's not about girls only anymore, a lot of younger boys and men fall into it also.
So, along those lines, I was trying to figure out what is really going on, with this onslaught on women.
The short version is that I have come to believe that beyond physical starvation, and the "mind" set originally to fit another's image, that mind power which can ultimately - and sometimes silently does - kill, is only the mirror of an anorexic soul.
A soul which has given up to a point where it cannot find it's way inside and upward, and cannot function anymore down here because of this madenning, tearing down power trip of the mind against the body.
Even the most famous experts fail in "curing" the most severe cases, and they just die senselessly. But, to a certain extent, something had given up, died inside, way before that.
We can look at eat simply as a physical or nervous problem., but I think that it is a sign of a disease of the soul, of an anorexic soul, especially woman's, who has been made to forget or ignore why she came about, created by God, and where her real power lies within.
I think that there is a great need, also among Christian women, to talk more about this issue, for their own sake, for their daughters, and women at large, because the devil is - silently and deviously - winning this one, and we should not stand for it.
