First, we were simply instructed to "Turn to your neighbor and say..." Then, it went to "Touch your neighbor and say..." Next was "Pull on your neighbor and say..." Now it's " Slap somebody (doesn't have to be your neighbor, just anybody) and say..." And not too long ago I heard " Slap somebody upside the head and say..."

Christian theatrics that I don't partake of.

We gone see a whole lot more of those slogans. I recently heard a tv evangelist say.
"Stomp your neighbors toe, and tell them..I know.. "Ouch" ".

Although I do see that some things do go a little too far.... I think for different cultures these are ways to keep people's attention. There have been studies indicating that people typically have a low attention span. Additionally, in some things I have heard that many different African things are based on "call and response"... even many of the songs we sing (esp. the older songs) are call and response. Examples are "Trouble in my Way" or "Walk around", etc.
In some cultures the actually contact is a way of communicating. And there are many different ways. Up North, if I'm talking to someone, I may say there name in the beginning to get their attention, but that's it. However, when I talk to someone down South, many times, they'll say my name in the midst of the conversation as well.... a different way of communicating.
Honestly, by what you guys are saying, it must be sticking, whether we think it's cool or not. It's almost as if that small extra bit helps you to remember what was stated. For others, they may feel down but it is that contact and that talking to your neighbor which gives some people a desire to "hold their head up"......
Now, for me, the time I don't like it is when they say talk to your neighbor and I'm sitting in an area where I have no neighbors so I have to talk to myself.......LOL

It doesn't help me remember what was stated it just helps me to remember that they tried to get me to do something that wasn't necessary.

It just gives opportunity for people to slap the heads of those that they really want to. Some of those evangelists who say that you can tell with the crazed look in their eye that lurking under the surface of their preach is a whole lotta people they want to slap 'for real'.

Whoa...!
I just really thought that it was said for like a "moment of laughter" I didnt think they were for real about the "slap somebody three times"...
Some ppl take things to the extreme, im talking about the ones who would actually do it. God gave us a lil sense.....let's use it.
LOL
