does anyone have any info on smelling ...I have heard of people smelling a rose sent ...and they say that represents the Lord
I've heard of people smelling an amonia type sent and they said that represents cancer
etc etc....
has anyone ever heard of or experienced the sent of something burning even when there was nothing burning.......just out of the blue standing in a store and there is a burning sent and you ask people around you and no one smells it..or maybe in the library or church or wherever and if so has this happened more than once....and what in the world could it be....or is it just something to do with the sinus cavity (smile)
Just asking because of something that happened again last night

What a fascinating topic! Did you know that the original Hebrew text of Isaiah 11:3 actually says of the Messiah: "He shall smell in the fear of the Lord;..."? I certainly didn't... until you started this thread.

More... There are world cultures that attribute the ability to discern good and evil to the power of sniffing and (imho, not at all coincidentally ) many of these are found in Africa. One could (and I would) argue that the practice of amending/mistranslating Isaiah 11:3 simply betrays a Western bias which could be corrected with some help from an African cultural understanding. African culture contains a wealth of resources which not only help to throw the light of scripture on the African context, but also throw the light of the African context on scripture. "Most of the exegetes of the ancient world, the Middle Ages and Renaissance had no problem with the idea that the Messiah would “smell.” The Protestant reformer John Calvin wrote in his Isaiah commentary:“We ought to attend, first of all, to the metaphor in the verb smell, which means that Christ will be so shrewd that he will not need to learn from what he hears, or from what he sees; for by smelling alone he will perceive what would otherwise be unknown.' "(Ian Ritchie, “The Nose Knows: Bodily Knowing in Isaiah 11.3,” Journal for the Study of the Old Testament (2002) (That article's title alone just tickled me. ;D) There are a number of biblical scholars who maintain that when the Sanhedrin blindfolded Jesus and ordered him to “Prophesy!” (Mark 14:65), they were applying a test known to them from Isaiah (11:3) – the true Messiah will have the prophetic gift of being able to discern right from wrong, good from evil, not in a superficial, arbitrary way like seeing or hearing, but in the way of a true prophet – through the sense of smell. Okay, that's some of what I've learned, but enough with the info, lol. If you don't mind my asking: What was your experience with this?

This is interesting. I've heard of the saints of old would say, "I smell sin!"
I've read that certain of the gifts of the Spirit that may, depending on the operation and the person, have a sense component to them, like smell.

thanks for the responses....I got an answer regarding this smell
I prayed and the answer was that I am smelliing sin, I am smelling burning flesh, I am smelling people on their way to hell' God said he is fine tuning my sense of smell, he also said that I am to pray whenever I smell this
I prayed about this and got the first answer on 2/09/07....then I waited and it happened again and again and I asked God again....(I just try to be really careful with things like this and I try to make sure that my flesh is not trying to creep up into stuff, I don't want to represent something as a word from God or a revelation from God if it is not) anyway I asked God to make it clear and asked him again what all of this was and ....it is not that I don 't trust God ....but it is my self that I question sometimes so....anyway he gave me the answer again on 2/22/07 ...along with some other stuff....but I just wanted to say thanks for the scripture reference (kieta)
