Grace and Peace, saints!
As I often do on "Good Friday", I went to hear some believers preach "Jesus' 7 Last Words" last evening. Over the years, like a lot of others, I've wondered about how and why that day became known as "Good" Friday. As I began actually looking into the matter, I've seen several different and interesting explanations, some of which I'd never heard or thought about.
So, I'm just curious to know what others here have been taught or understand about "Good Friday".

I was actually thinking about that same thing not too long ago, but didn't get around to researching the origins of the name (we could also throw "Fat Tuesday" and "Maundy Thursday" in as well). What did you come up with, Sister Keita?
And by the way yall--HE LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I "was raised Catholic" and attended a Catholic school from age 7 to 12.... So, that's where and how I was originally taught.
In this tradition, the entire week between Palm Sunday and Resurrection Sunday (which is still called "Pâques" in French) is called Holy Week, every day of that week is called Holy... , including Friday which is Holy Friday.
In the Catholic religion, Holy Friday is really a day of sorrow, where the death of Jesus, and all that lead to Golgotha and the cross - the Passion - is vividly remembered.
My school was actually linked to the basilica by a bridge-like walk way so, at 3 in the afternoon of Holy Friday, we would leave the school and go to the Basilica. There, we would form a procession in the aisle that went all the way around, and on the wall were hung paintings marking what is called the twelve stations of the cross. We would stop at each of them, and one of the nuns would read scriptures related to that specific station....
So, my short answer to the question is that, for me, "Holy" Friday made sense, even as a child. I certainly did not understand everything, but I knew what Jesus Christ had sufffered, and that He died for me, and my heart was broken. So, going to church on that Sunday - and I was in the choir! - I remember being so full of joy, and literally singing my heart out, because He was risen, alive ,and all was well....
Yeeeeears later, I walked in a Pentecostal Church....
Definitely joining KB - HE LIVES!!!!!!!! And because He lives, we live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
