On Sunday night was I watching Sunday's morning's repeat of Meet The Faith and the topic was African Americans and Plastic Surgery. And it amazed me that they were giving statistics of how many are now turning to plastic..."to enhance and beautify" themselves. The on the panel of guest was..a plastic surgeon..a celebrity..and a well known minister of the gospel. As I sat there watching this show..I started wondering what kind of messages are sending each other..our daughters..and ourselves. Questioning are we so wrapped in ourselves that we can't see the deception that lies within our own hearts...do I really mean what I say when I open my mouth to say that " I am fearly and wonderfully made..because God knew me before I was formed in the inward parts of my mother's womb ? In light of the society we live in what are your thoughts on this subject ?

Just my opinion: I don't think that it is necessarily questioning the fact that we are, indeed, wonderfully made. Not all cosmetic surgeries are done just because of what some would consider "vanity", especially for women, regardless of race. So, unless it is really going to extremes just because it's there, it might actually be a health issue, whether physical or even psychological, depending on what the person would like to correct. I did not see the show so, I don't know what they were focusing on...

Interestingly, I was looking at something on TV today that detailed two women's plastic surgery ordeals. One was getting a breast reduction, and the other a breast augmentation and Brazilian butt procedure (to add more mass to the buttocks). I think these two cases served as two examples of plastic surgery for health reasons (heavy breasts) versus vain reasons. However, at the same time, I would treat some of the minor cases on an individual basis. If I had a protruding nose, for example, I wouldn't necessarily rule out plastic surgery to get rid of some of cartilage. I mean, you could also talk about things like teeth whitening, skin bleaching, etc., and I know more people would fall into those categories.

I saw the show last sunday and I thought they really didnt give Jordan the chance to really express his views without being out talked and pushed into a corner. He said somethings I agreed with, but he could have been a little clearer on homosexuality and the church... What I didnt like was how they were blaming the church for the homosexuality coverup.

We're discussing that broadcast in the other "Meet the Faith" thread.
