Hello Everyone, I miss you guys yes I am still around. I have a very serious ? to ask you all. What do you think about Church doing back ground checks? I ask this because the Church that I have been attending for 10 yrs have decided to do back ground checks, first on Leaders and Leaders that are over Children. No problem I say....but now they are doing back ground checks on us choir members, ushers, muscian, you name it. I could not minister because I refuse to give out my SSN. So Saint help me out! What do you all think about this. atrue

I understand some of it..we now have so many people attending church for the main purpose of getting next to our children. They play role look the part; and know how it all. Yet, underneath it all; they are wolves in sheeps clothing. If I may suggest place talk your leadership regarding any concerns and questions that you have regarding this matter if have not already done so. Not, too long ago in a church I was attending ..a man started attending the fellowship; loved the praise and worship, and the word, he shared with the Pastor, and he liked the kids. One the brothers picked up a check in his spirit and could not put his finger on it..when it came to him he did some research and found this man had been convicted of child molestion charges..from that time he could not walk through the facilties unaccompanied.. He got angry and left..that's not the end of it. Approx.. a year later I saw this man's face on the front page of a local newspaper. Telling adults how he was able to get access to his victims..he had convicted of child molestation, and was awaiting sentencing for doing what he knew was wrong. I know it seems strange; yet, when I worked with a youth group we had have a cori check..if we had not taken one.

But ministering in the choir! yes I do teach Sunday School ages 12-14 that I understand. It angre me that I could not sing or even work in the sound room. And I must say that this back ground check is done for a reason due to the fact that the pastor son was involved with a 15 yr old. I don't know if you remember talking about this before the board crash. And it is still going on. He's been put away for 15 yrs but there are people trying to sue the church, the pastor, and so forth its crazy. atrue

Atrue, I know this is a very uncomfortable situation.... The church is going through a lot of changes since the incident.... No one can be the blame, not even the pastor, except young man who committed the crime.... According to your description, he was the perfect youth minister, the kids loved him, and now hurting.... It was a surprise to all of you.. If the church is in the process of being sued.... Your pastor's lawyer and advisors... probably telling him to do this.... He must have record on every active member... I know it seem like your privacy is being invaded... When it come to your workplace is one thing... but the Church!!! No!... Church must be even more careful than your job.... not just for the Children, teens and young adults... but ALL members.... You can be violated too, not in the same way as that precious child, but your identity can be stolen by a brother or sister you thought was so saved. We had people get robbed right in the church! It may be hard to believe, but it is true. A sister had a envelope with money she raise for apostle appreciation, someone had stolen it right out of her purse during praise and worship.... You must Know who labor among you... Sometime things are taken while a person is being ministered to or out in the spirit. You sing in the choir and work with the youth (teens), you shouldn't give up that over a background check... It is also for your protection. The church must to be wise, should not let anyone work with children without a background check........ Please be patient with your pastor as he go through this... it is bad enough that it happen in his church and even worst, that it was his son. I believe his lawyer(s) and adviser is directing him. God Bless AT

atrue..I agree with att...at this time your Pastor is looking out the interest of those youg souls, the church, and the body as a whole. And since you do work with pre-teens and teens it is your best interest to have the background check done; and if you apply for a job working with young people that part will already be taken care of. And in this day and age it's not a bad idea; their not your check...in most cases they only want to know if you have a police record, and those kinds of tihngs.
