On yesterday as I was leaving work..I came across a snake who making it's way towards some shrubs that are outside the back door entrances. Being that it was hot yesterday, normally they won't come out..but, this one was moving. I yelled, the blood of Jesus and turned around and ran back into the building to let someone know..after checking to see if it rattles on the tail..couldn't see..and see if would stop. I figured my best bet was to out run it. Well, mostly everyone had gone home and my lead was still working and I let her know..she called security and because I was shaken up..I couldn't really talk...but, I told them what I could. Still shaken up..everyone went to see if they could find it. I was finally able to get my car..but, still a bit scared. One of my co workers decided it was a good time...to yell, there he is and I jumped and started running again..she thought it was funny..I didn't. This morning...I told I am glad everyone got a good laugh..her reply was...me, too !! then I let her it wasn't funny because I wasn't laughing. AZ in known for it's diamond rattlers..and all I saw was a grayish color and spots.....was I overreacting ??

I don't think we can say that you were overreacting with regards to seeing the snake. I run at bugs, the sight of them gives me the creeps.
As far as the co-workers, it sounds as if they were just trying to make mockery of the situation. But if I was deathly afraid of snakes, I would run again as well.

The most ironic thing is..they tell you not run when you see one..to be still !! I grew on in NC and we don't stand still for snakes. And that's what I felt as well that it mockery..thanks !!

I would think you'd be used to seeing them, growing up in NC (the country, no doubt....LOL). My grandmother (in SC) came up on one one time and just moved it out of the way with her cane and kept on walking, LOL.
I don't like snakes either, but I'm not exactly terrified if I see one--I guess it depends on how close it is. And it's usually true that they are more afraid of you than you are of them.
But I'd just brush the situation with your co-workers off. I don't think they really meant any harm.

Snakes in general have poor vision. They do however have an extremely sensitive sense of smell. Snakes tend to strike at movement more than anything else. So quick movement that is like its prey trying to get a way will stimulate a snakes tendency to strike at rapidly moving objects. While I am from NYC I spent manyt summers in Mississippi along the gulf and Water Moccassins would show up on the regular.
And yes in most cases they are either striking a larger target as a defense mechanism rather than agression.

I haven't seen one that close since I left the East Coast. The last one I saw was in a wash..this one was very close and it was on the move !! I don't know where it went and it was strange coming across it because normally they don't come out when it's very hot. It didn't hear me walking..I had on heels. They say stand still when you see one...all I saw was was the light spots on it's back; it turns out it was a rattle snake. It was just too close to the building entrance for me..
