Hello All,
As you all know from another thread, I volunteer with a Crisis Pregnancy Center. We counsel abortion minded women. Because, I have had an abortion myself (long long time ago), I have to go through their post - abortion bible study class to ensure that I am over the "issues" that often affect post abortion women. I also have to attend this class because I have been asked to become a facilitator of the post abortion bible study.
We are in the 10th week of this 12 weeks class. Last week the ladies in this bible study was told that we are being asked to "memorialize our babies" (those that were aborted). They feel that this will bring order to the chaos and will allow you to identify with your child. They will also require you to name your child (also as a form of identification). This service will be held in a church with the other women in the bible study, the 2 facilitators and 3 head people of the Crisis Pregnancy Center as well as a pastor who will give a small sermon. They ask that you either write a letter, a poem, sing a song, dance or even a "sermonette" in memory of your child.
Any thoughts on this?

My immediate response was to reject this since I have already grieved over this many many years ago and have honestly given it all to the Lord. However, as I have pondered this I came up with the following: - Names were very important in the Bible. Many times, we read in Scripture, where God changed the name of some as a prophetic declaration of who they were to become. Also, when we see the names of the men and women of the Bible, we see how it directly relates to the lifestyle and personality of the person named.
- I read of many bible accounts in which memorials were set up (altars, pillars, stones etc.) in memory of what God had done for His people and how His glory was demonstrated.
- He must increase, but I must decrease.. This came to me last night as I was driving along. I must die so that Christ may get the glory in all of this. If in my obedience it opens the door to allow me to minister to many others and maybe even save the lives of many babies then I must become as such to win some.

I think it will bring some type of closure to the individuals. After it is all over, they should leave every at the feet of Jesus.

Jas,
I think giving the baby an identity and a memorial service will bring the post abortion to a close. It will also give the woman an opportunity to do something for the child.
There were a minister at a women conference who had six abortion, when she was out there in the world. She had the women in the service to say good bye to their aborted baby.... it was so powerful, so many women got delivered that day.
Anything God stamp his approval... His Anointing will rest upon it, and it will do over and beyond what we will think or amagin.

I didn't disagree with the thought of having a memorial service. I totally agree. Even after the memorial service, the individuals should leave it the feet of Jesus.
I gave the lyrics to a song to misskay for her friend regarding abortion, ASWSOY, would you like me to send the lyrics to you also, and maybe a lady who will be apart of the memorial service would like it, or you could read it out in the open.
Totally your call.

UPDATE:
We had the memorial service last night and the only word that I can use to describe it is: awesome! Everything was Christ/Cross centered, many were healed, much love was shared etc. The fellowship was awesome. The Word of the Lord by the Pastor of that particular church (for it was held at a "host church") was short, sweet and to the point - in other words simply the Gospel - for he, too, pointed one back to Christ/the Cross.
I am really glad that I participated for it really did a change within me.

Did any of the women express how they felt after the service? Yes! Everyone said that they felt closure. They said that by going through the memorial service that they felt they identified with the situation more than they had allowed themselves to in the past. Many said that they felt the love of Christ throughtout the service. Yesterday was the final class and everyone in my class was very happy that they did so. For many, naming their child was healing for them. They are no longer ashamed etc. Many of them who were afraid to tell loved ones testified that through this process they were able to do so and received much support from them. AND the loved ones showed up for the memorial service. Another awesome thing was that many felt that they also needed to do this for babies that they miscarried!!! And therefore they were able to put closure to that situation as well.
