In the book of Gensis the first chapter it is stated that there was light somewhere between the first or forth verse I don't have my bible with me so I am quessing. But it is said that God had to seperate the light from the darkness. Then as you read down you will notice that God created the sun and the moon and God gave the command "Let there be light" How is it that there was light on the earth before there was a Sun or a Moon.

Here's two verses that may be beneficial
Re 21:23 - Show Context And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Re 22:5 - Show Context And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Creation: Day one
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon the surface of the depths; the Presence of God hovered above the surface of the water. God said, 'Let there be light' and there was light." Genesis 1:1-3
Creation: Day four
"God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of heaven to separate between the day and the night.'And God made two great lights, the greater light for dominion in the day, and the lesser light for dominion at night, as well as the stars." Genesis 1:14-16
Without light, there is no life, of any kind. As creation unfolded, according to God's plan, light had to be "set up" in a certain order also to accomplish what it was meant to accomplish.

Day one creation, we see that light came to the earth for the first time. On day four God created the sun and moon and the verse tells us why. They were created for light, but more importantly, they were created to give man a calendar.

Was it the same light on the 1st day and on the 4th day?

Was it the same light on the 1st day and on the 4th day? My limited mind says no since God could have easily told us that the source of the light on day one was the sun, as He does on day four. Methinks the source of the light was God Almighty Himself.

That is a good point that the light could be God himself. But let's keep in mind that in v.3 God said "let there be light" and there was light and God separated the light from the darkness. I guess because God is so awsome that by him speaking that light will come forth....... it came forth. And then as it is said later he spoke for the sun and moon to come forth. I think that is powerful

Commentary on Genesis 1:3 & 14 from the editors of the NET Bible: The Hebrew word simply means “light,” but it is used often in scripture to convey the ideas of salvation, joy, knowledge, righteousness, and life. In this context one cannot ignore those connotations, for it is the antithesis of the darkness. The first thing God does is correct the darkness; without the light there is only chaos.
Light itself was created before the light-bearers. The order would not seem strange to the ancient Hebrew mind that did not automatically link daylight with the sun (note that dawn and dusk appear to have light without the sun).

I am so excited by the true Word of God. According to the Aramaic and the true idiomatic meaning, "Let there be light" in Genesis 1:3 really means "Let there be enlightenment and understanding."
Similarly, "darkness" in Geneis 1:4 means "ignorance and lack of understanding."
Both "light" and "darkness" in idiomatic Aramaic still carry the same meanings today, as they did when the original scripture was written.

Also on the same subject and from a study:
"And they [Adam and Eve] heard the voice of God manifesting itself throughout the garden, at the approach of evening, and the man and his wife hid from God, amongst the trees of the garden. And God called out to the man, and said to him, 'Where are you?'" Genesis 3:8-9
The Hebrew word used to express "where are you?"—ayekah—is a highly unusual word, so unusual in fact that it is actually an allusion to the "light."
When God called out to Adam and said, "ayekoh, where are you?" The deeper meaning of ayekoh is, "Where is the light?"
* The word ayekoh can be split into two words. Aye, which means "where" and koh, which is a difficult word to translate and seems to have different meanings in different contexts. However, the numerical value of the word koh is twenty-five, the number that represents "light." When looked at this way, the word ayekoh literally means, "where is the light?"
After eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the following happened:
"And God made for Adam and his wife garments of skin, and He clothed them." Genesis 3:21
Those were special clothes, very special. The Hebrew word for skin—as in "garments of skin"—is ohr. And it just so happens that the word ohr is a homonym. Ohr also means light and "light."
When God dressed them in ohr, He was comforting them. He was telling them that despite the fact that they had failed to reveal the "light," still, all was not lost. The day would yet come when the "light" would finally be revealed."
And it did, and He came, HALLELUJAH
