Reminds me of a "prayer" on one of Sister Cantaloupe's CDs (the Christian comedienne) when a fellow believer asked her for prayer. She prayed "Lord go to my refrigerator; fill it up Lord. Lord go to my cupboard; fill it up Lord. And when you get finished blessing me, do somethin' for her." ROTFL! |

No, I didn't think it wrong and I still don't but I will reply. My question was answered else where and through a telephone conversation so therefore it is a bit difficult to communicate it here. My question had to do with the Mentor/Mentee Spiritual Father/Son & Spiritual Mother/Daughter relationships. It is often taught that if one doesn't have one of these then they are not "ready for ministry". Many times it is said that you are an "island by yourself" or something to that effect if nobody was there to nuture you along. This is outside of the Pastor of the church. I was just wondering where this "thought" came from and how does one back it up with scripture. I am not against these relationships but was wondering how it became doctrine. Even as I read about Paul & Timothy, nowhere did I read that it was something that Timothy had to submit to. I don't know if I am making sense - I have had much in my heart as of late and I am trying not to explode on a message board. I have questioned many things and have wondered what happened to the purity of the Word of God. |

Honestly,
I hear your heart... and Jesus is yet pure and perfect. and He is the word, even while men pervert and distort.
Our saints of old, was moved by the Spirit of the Living God. If we can all recall, they didn't have too much head knowledge regarding the "depth" of the word. They didn't get all into the hebrew & Greek, etc..etc..
they moved by the spirit, they stuck to certain scriptures..and that was it.
I love learning, I love reading, I Love researching and what I have learned is this.. Practical examples, for Practical people. Like mentor/mentee...While it shouldn't be made into a "doctrine" it is a example of a relationship where both parties receives.
Many people grow up with out fathers, mothers, so don't know what it feels like to have some one providing the necessary guidance and counsel needed to achieve in life. Many people grow up with a mother and father in the home, and still unable to obtain that same necessary guidance and counsel needed to achieve in life, such as me.
the phrase " no man is an island" is absolutely true. We cannot make it in this walk alone. Me & Jesus = I'm never alone...Me & nobody & no Jesus = a lonely life of troubles.
What perverts the word today..first everybody does not move or even operate in the prophetic. I am not talking about being a prophet or prophetess..but we miss GOD move, because we are too busy trying to analyze everything that comes our way, make a name for ourselves, trying to prove that my knowledge is greater..
Would it be fair to say that we allow individuals to pollute and distort the word because too long have we been turned on by the "excitement" of a message, and not really "hearing" the message.
Example: Its so easy for preachers to tune up these days..they could be saying something soo stupid, but because we hype & holla at the excitement of the hoop, we miss God " and the pen dropped, and my lord, I said, why fore did you do such a thing to me, and the pen said, when I am weak, you pick me up".. (now i know that was quite silly, but precisly my point). People will shout over silly mess just like this. Why? Because they don't hear. and this is why the scriptures have been twisted.
Again, just another sign that we are living in the last days!

Also in regards to spiritual mothers / fathers many people did not grow up in a church and do not understand the "proper" hows and whys of things within the House of God.
Example (and EXAMPLE ONLY) if I grew up in the streets and have been called to the ministry than I as a woman may not understand that you don't get up in minister in a halter top with spandex pants on.......
In this instance that is where spiritual mother / fathers come in...............
