Dr Kennedy actually did speak about this a few years ago. Some completely misinterpreted what he was saying, of course, and accused him of heresy....
www.coralridge.org/zodiac.htmlwww.coralridge.org/CRMResCtrsearch.asp?sc=ProductDescription&search=zodiacI know that we are forbidden to try and predict the future. That's the main reason why people get into astrology in the first place, because they want to know the future, one way or the other...
Those things never went away through out the ages. If anything, today, they are very much alive and well. They have a very broad audience, to say the least. Aside from what we can just assign to man inherent nature, why would God allow it? If it is forbidden, and it is, what examples do we have of Gods actions/judgements against astrologers?
He chose Abraham and his father, Terach, and his entire family, in their land of Chaldea. They worshipped idols and were very much into astrology.
Then, years later after that, we have:
The Book of Genesis relates that, following the death of Sarah, Abraham remarried and fathered more children:
To the sons of the
concubines that Abraham had, he gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac, his son, while he was still alive. He sent them eastward to the Land of the East. (Genesis 25:6)
(Those were not the sons of Keturah, she was his wife.)
"This passage has led some to claim that Eastern religious practices and healing methods are based on the ancient teachings of Abraham--the "gifts" that he sent to "the Land of the East."
However, the Genesis passage clearly states that Abraham wanted to send his younger sons "away from Isaac." As Isaac was the inheritor of his holy mission to spread the knowledge of the One God, Abraham sent away his foreign sons--who practiced idolatry--to prevent them from influencing Isaac."
I asked before what about the Magi because their role is just accepted as part of the folklore. Christmas comes around and here they come, strolling on their camels.
We don't have many details about them, we know that they studied the stars and how they discovered "the" star. They were divinely inspired.
And God kept watching over them, and even made sure that they went back to their "heathen" land safely. What if they were the descendants of those foreign sons of Abraham? What if it was God's way to show that he had not forgotten them or lost sight of them?
They were sent away by their father, with gifts, became kings. They came back with gifts, for the King, and they were the only ones to know him, by God's design.
We don't know, it's not written....
Somebody, somewhere, is always picking up some pieces left along the road, something from the Scriptures, and turning it into something completely different.
It's not just astrology, some of those other teachings can actually sound good, and a lot of people listen to them, or read the books, whether they admit it or not.
Actually, I would dare to say that through the ages, and up until now, the occult has never been very far from Christianity..
Should we care about the Magi, who they were, why? Does it matter that God took the time, and went through great length to reveal those things to them first, not even to the Jews?
If it's written about them, I believe it does. It might not turn the world on its head, or maybe it would, the way things are going.
Stars are mentioned a great number of times in the Bible, and not only in the Old Testament. They are mentioned in major prophecies.
What about this one in the book of Revelation:
Rev 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
Rev 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Rev 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
We all remember the tragedy that happened when the members of that cult committed suicide believing that the Haley's comet was in fact that star annoucing the end of the world.
Even the scholars on Bible prophecy can't agree on it anyway. Some say it is a real star falling or many other interpretations.
There are new stars being named every day. Should we be worried? No. Should we be aware? I would say yes.
Nothing happens that God has not spoken but, if the Lord tarries, we should be able to talk about that and more, because the devil knows the scriptures too, and he's been using them against us ever since the Garden.
