This is also an error in the teaching on the tithe. Nobody dropped dead in the bible for not giving a tithe. Ananias and Saphria died because they lied to the Holy Spirit. However, to keep with the flow of the study, we are focusing on Genesis 14 and Hebrews 7 right now. BTW, welcome to Bible Study Be Blessed! oh OK, I just remembered the story when I read this post, thank you for explaining. ;D ohhhhhh but I did say it was because they lied... yes, indeed they lied but they were not tithing anyway. However, we will get to that verse eventually.

Can we jump ahead just a little?!! please !! It's quite interesting what is revealed through the scriptures. Has anyone else discovered where Abraham gave a tithe again after his encounter with Melchazdiec ??
I know I spelled the name wrong..I will change it later.

The question you asked, is that where you wish to jump to? If so, by all means please discuss. If not, where are you looking to move forward to?

I just started rereading on tithing..it looks it was in Deut. 14:22 - 27
14:22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 14:23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 14:23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 14:24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 14:24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 14:25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 14:25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 14:26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 14:26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 14:27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own. I found this quite interesting because there was an instruction to set aside the tenth to present it to the Lord at the place he choose as a dwelling to learn reverance for the Lord..but, then there comes an instruction on what to do if the place is too far.then there was an instruction to exchange it for silver and buy whatever you wanted to..with the instruction not neglect the Levites. I had never seen that before; and found it very interesting that in light of all that has been taught regardinig tithing.

I had never seen that before; and found it very interesting that in light of all that has been taught regardinig tithing. Nehemiah 10:37 And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. The Levites were the only ones to enter the Tabernacle, for fear of death, and very specific procedures, ceremonies, rituals and sacrifices had to be followed in all they did, or they faced dire consequences. Their role was to care for the Temple where the presence of God abode at that time, and they were required to offer both gifts of thanksgiving and sacrifices for sins. [Le 17:11] The high priest was the head of all religious affairs, was the judge and dispensed judgment for the Jewish nation, and he was the head of all the other priests. [De 17:8-12] The priests also were to teach the children of Israel the statutes of the Lord, and decide controversies and so on. [Le 10:11; De 33:10] After receiving the tithes from the Israelites, the priests in turn were required to also give ten percent of what was given to them. [Nu18:21-28] Every third year the tithe was to be reserved as a festival tithe and everything brought for the Levites was shared so strangers, orphans, widows and the poor could come and eat and be content [De 14:27-29; 15:1-7; 26:12-15, etc] In fact, the one festival and related tithes was provided for the people to go and spend the tithe on purchasing anything they lusted after or desired, by commandment of God [De 12:15, 20, 21; 14:26]
