As tithing is a very touchy subject in the body of Christ. When it was stated in the book of Hosea that my people perish for the lack of knowledge is very true..I believe that there is a healthy balance on giving whether it's offerings or tithing. Just to hear one passage of scripture used regarding this subject lets me know that there is much to be learned. I heard a reknoown speaker when asked do you pay your tithes should it be the gross or net..he stated that it should be from the net..because if you do it from the gross you're robbing your debtors of the 20.00 that could be going to them..

Many Christians are unaware that tithing was not first practiced by the ancient Jews. It was an ancient practice to be sure, but it was exercised in many cultures.
The widespread practice in the ancient world of tithing by giving a portion of one's profit or spoils of war extended from Greece to China. Donation of a tenth portion was common apparently because most people "counted in tens, based on ten fingers.
Thus, this can explain why Abraham chose to give a tithe to The King of Salem.

In my studies, I found that even the practice of animal sacrificing was not instituted by God but was something that was performed by people in all religions. It is mind blowing. Scripture is always new again as He reveals layers upon layers upon layers.

In my studies, I found that even the practice of animal sacrificing was not instituted by God but was something that was performed by people in all religions. I'm not sure what you mean when you say this animal sacrifice wasn't instituted by God. I think you mean that the Jews were not the first people to practice animal sacrifice (although they are probably among the first, if not THE first, to officially codify the practice). However, keep in mind that Abel was not a Jew. We also know that circumcision was practiced by the Egyptians before it was practiced by the Israelites. The first recorded instance of monotheism in history was among the Egyptian pharoah Akhenaton. There were several "messiahs" before Jesus. And so on and so forth....
